Temperature gauge problem.

Just got 98 5.0 explorer temp gauge not working. It has only one wire going to the sending unit when I cross the other terminal coming form sending unit to a ground it pegs the needle. how many and what color should the wires be thanks for any help

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. Replace the sending unit.
