I have searched for recommendations on brake pads several times in the past on this site and have seen many individuals searching for brake pads that do not create massive amounts of brake dust. I have found a brake pad that has eliminated my brake dust problem on the Explorer. They are the Bendix TitaniuMetallic. Before I installed these pads my white letters and chrome wheels (16") would become very dark after a couple days of driving. I proactively changed the old pads with an 1/8" of pad left before the wear indicator because I was very miffed by the brake dust. The pads can be bought at Advance Auto Parts and here in northern Indiana they are roughly $35.00 for the front axle. There is no squeal so far. I have driven these new pads for roughly 1000 miles.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info wallygetsit. They will go on my "next brake pad" list. My chromes are black within 2 weeks of washing. Have you noticed any difference in braking? Do they seem harder than other pads?

I have not noticed any difference in braking, though with the last brakes they seemed to stop the truck well. They do not seem to be any harder. Supposedly, don't take this as gospel, they are easier than carbon metallics on rotors. I will not confirm or deny this, but with rotors as cheap as they are, if they do wear out the rotors, I am not particularly concerned.

I know this is an old thread, but...

I live in Garrett, about 15 mins North of Fort Wayne. I work in Kendallville. Yesterday, I picked my bendix pads at the Advanced Auto there in Kendallville. I'm gonna pick up rotors tonight.

I got home and took my brakes apart and realized my rotors are shot (beyond turning). The Pad on the driver's side was totally gone. The Pad on the Passengers side was only about half gone. Anyway, I'll let ya know how my new pads work out.

My last pads (don't remember what brand), were REALLY squeeky! They also didn't last very long.
