Thank you to all the Hub / bearing experts on this forum. My search to resolve a bad hub/bearing on my 98 Mounty ( 122 k) was very informative. Even down to diagnosing correctly which wheel bearing is bad. I found an excellent ( with pictures) review of the "how to" remove / replace the sealed hub unit. He said about 1 and 1/2 hours to do the job and he was correct. Maybe I was lucky and bolts were not so frozen after pre-soaking the night before the work, but the job went very smooth. The problem has been solved. BTW I paid $ 198 for the hub/bearing - although I found a better price at Pep Boys ( $169) after the fact - but not in stock. When the other side goes, I will be ready.
Thanks again
