Okay, so guys..I took my truck to the mechanic. He looked all underneath..siad nothing was leaking from the transfer case...and the drivetrain looked fine. He tightened the exhaust as he said it had fallen apart...and did my Ebrake pads and brake...and my rear brakes.

It wasnt clunking for about an hour..and its back to doing the original THUD it does..when I come to a stop. :(

What to do, what to do!!!! This is so frustrating!!!

My Mom thinks it is the Tranny..but the tranny claims its my transfer case. WHAT DO I DO???

Does it clunk while coming to a stop?Or when you are taking off?

Have you had the slip yoke greased?

He said it alll looked fine. trust me its a VERY loud thunk. My U Joints are good too.

What part of the truck underneath does it sound like it is coming from?

i think more information needs to be had in order to be helpful to you. when does it clunk and what is the truck doing at that point? can you easily repeat the clunk at will?

i know you said it clunks when you come to a stop but that is only a little info....

does it clunk while the transsmission is downshifting?

does it clunk as soon as you start to stop or right before you come to a complete stop [a point at which the transmission will be down shifting].

does it do it regardless of the transmission being warm or cold?

if you can make it clunk everytime you stop you should shift the tranny into neutral prior to stopping and see it the clunk still happens...

it could be a few things but a little more info may help figure out the problem.

Only when the Tranny is warm....yeah I can replicate it whenever I stop! Ummm....it's when the tranny downshifts... at least it sounds that way.

i cant imagine thats the tranny

try having a friend stand outside then replicate the sound in front of them a few times untill they have a good idea of where its coming from

normally when theres a clunk like that its the u joints gathering slack because they are bodged (neutral drops =) ) but if u have been taking care of it that noise is really strange

does the wheel shudder at all when the clunk happens?
does the floor board vibrate?when u push on the brakes does the wheel pull to one side? (mabey its something in the front sus)

Nothing like that at all..nothing happens..it just feels like a huge rod...that is going..BAM! from the front to the Back.

sounds kind of like your slip yoke needs to be greased.. its not a real uncommon thing actually.

Did your mechanic physically take apart the rear driveshaft? If not, he didn't grease the slip yoke. You can't determine whether or not it needs to be greased without taking the damn thing apart.

Think so???? Could it be my rear end??? my mechanic said MAYBE it is...but that he highly doubts it.

Look under the truck, does the factory clamps that hold down the boot look like they been messed with?

Factory clamps that hold down the boot? Hmmm...okay...youll have to explain that more clearly ;( I know where the cv boots are..is that what you mean?

Pardon me..;( I'm a girlie.....so I'm not as smart as you men. Sorry for my ignorance.

lol no ignorance i acctually have to give u props for as much as u do know gender aside

if it feels like a its going from front to back then it has to be the driveshaft something about it if its not the u joints its the slip yoke has to be

that feeling has to mean something is losse if it was the u joints it would be kind of like something gathering slack then BOOMING into place if it was the tranny from my expirience its alot smaller of a clank and boom then u are discribing

i have never had a problem with a rear end aside from going over a curb sideways and blowing a bearing seal they then went out and it made it feel like the tire was out of ballance

keep us posted =)

Okay...so I should tell my mechanic that my slip yoke should be greased???

well ask him to look at the slip yoke and see whats what there have u had him in the car and tried to replicate the sound? he mabey can get a good idea of whats wrong

Did your mechanic pull the driveshaft off to check the slip yoke?

Most post's that I've read about owners taking there trucks for this slip yoke required maintenance, were told it's not possible and doesn’t exist?
Not true!
It's in your owners manual, and has been a proven fix, by no other than the members of this forum...
