Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and so far I'm loving it. I hope you can offer some help....when I am in 4x4 Auto and a tire starts to spin on ice or snow, I get a bone charing "Clunk" as it engages into 4x4, is this normal? I'v e only owned my 2002 x for a short time.

BTW, I' also have the leaking rear diff..big surprise!

Not to worry the "clunk" is normal.

Yes, Clunk is normal. Consider that instantly power is put to the front wheels which hopefully get traction. This will put some strain on the front drivetrain and the vehicle as it gains traction which causes the "clunk", as long as it isnt continuise (sp?)

Thanks all, I figured it was normal, just wanted to be sure. It does sound a little bit harsh, but considering the sudden transfer of V8 power (as you've said) it understandable.
