micro picture update

Spent today doing little stuff here and there on the 'sploder. Finally replaced a bolt that's been missing on the water pump and trouble-shot the radiator fan. Turns out a wire came out of the fuse holder :frustrate . Though, I did learn that when I overheat (which takes about 15-20 minutes idling at a stand still), the pressure release causes steam to come out of my ford emblem. haha

I also started on a machete.

Okay, so it's not a machete, but it kinda looks like one. That's really a teaser pic for the metal door handle replacements (stock ones have broken so much, I think there's more JB-Weld than there is plastic).

They're direct bolt-in. I decided to keep the bottom plate solid so I have a little nook to put my phone.

I'm thinkin' about doing a full write-up with templates for the interior forum. If I do, I'll link to it in this thread.

Sweet! Down to debugging. Kudos to you on a nice job. I love the Classic Military look! On a side note... How did the job hunting go? It's bad here in Michigan and gettting worse... Teachers, law enforcement, etc... the old bugdget cuts... Good Luck...

Grazie. :)

The job market here is brutal. Last week I went to an open interview for a bar tending position. The interviews were from 9-12. In the first hour there were over 30 applicants.

I'm not dead! :-P

Just thought I'd swing by and let y'all know neither myself, nor this project is dead. haha

Mostly been taking care of family stuff and still job hunting (ugh). I think I've got an in at a tow company though, so hopefully I will be gainfully employed very soon. Lord knows I'm gonna need a job just to register the damn thing.

Turns out, after letting the registration lapse for a year, I owe for both years (which makes sense) plus penalties that come out to be more than double of both years combined! Yep, a little over $330.00 to get her back on the road...

As soon as I finish cleaning up the garage, I'm going to be finishing up the fender support structure and get everything primed.

I don't know how I missed this one, good work. I like the look.

Good luck with the job! I'm excited to this this project nearing it's completion. :biggthump

I don't know how I missed this one, good work. I like the look.

Thanks, :)

I've seen your 'sploder online, Love the ZAPV!

I'm planning on either ZRV (zombie response vehicle) or ZRU (zombie response unit).

Update!

Dang it's been a while! Thought I give a little update on what's going on with my 'sploder.

It lives!

Well, kinda. I paid the nearly $400.00 in registration fees and penalties but it didn't pass smog. I think I'll be able to get it to pass pretty easily. It only blew dirty in the 15mph test by 7%, everything else was fine other than equipment issues.

For the equipment, I'm going to have to make a smog intake system since my current short intake can't incorporate the stupid TAC system. I'm thinking about just pulling off the hood and having the stock intake just sort of dangling there; kind of a middle finger to them as it's obvious I'll be swapping it out once I get home, heh.

What else? Oh, I finished up the front passenger interior door pull.

100_1811.jpg

That's the only picture I've got at the moment, but I'll go out and snap some more after I finish this little update.

Another thing; I was worried about driving around with the current headlights but after a few days/nights of driving it as is, I've had no issues with LEOs. I am going to swap in DOT legal lights, but in the mean time, these seem to be alright.

Lastly, not really related to the 'sploder but I did mention my job search and I'm kind of excited about it. I start a welding job in a couple weeks! :) I was beginning to think I'd end up flippin' burgers, but nope!

So that's about it. I'll get some pictures of the door handles up pretty quick.

The list now is
  • smog
  • paint
  • lights

Oh, and snorkel and lift/tires. :D

~Rev

Good Luck on your new job! Sweet job, love the different look....

Looking good. The project is coming along nicely! Congrats on the new job.

Looks good man. Hello from Reddit.

Reverend, have you got an update for us?

Sorry for neglecting this thread as of late. I've been swamped at working tens six days a week.

The most recent news is that my spolder got impounded. I got her back though (much to the dismay of my family, haha). A cop lit me up as I was turning into a gas station three blocks from my house. I only took her out so I could air up a leaky tire because my compressor took a dive. I'd just paid all the fees too, just had to smog to get the sticker. I was livid to say the least.

Though, the cop was being "nice" and didn't put a hold on it so I was able to get it released before it accumulated too much of a bill at the tow yard.

After all that, I had to pull off all the sheet metal up front so I could rig up the stock intake to pass smog (gotta have the thermostatic BS to pass). When I took it down, it passed emissions and visual but failed the evap test.

And that's where I'm at now. I need to find the leak in the evap system, fix it, and go and re-smog it so I can get my stickers.

After that's taken care of, I'm going to talk to my boss at work and see if I could use the paint booth. If not, I'll just hang plastic and paint at home.

Oh, Another thing! I now have street legal headlights. I'll do a quick write up about that on sunday with pictures of the lights and my hokey intake.

sweet ride man, cant wait to see final product!

Reverend, sorry to hear of your issues. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the pics..................

Your ex looks so mean. I love it!!!! nice work man, hope you can get it out and about soon.

Update

Well, it's been fun folks. Unfortunately, this will be my last update.

After a solid year of fighting with bullshit smog certification issues, the rig has been sold to a friend in a smog exempt county.

It has been a fun ride and much was learned. In fact, this project is really what got me into my current field of employment as it was how I learned to fabricate with steel.

I want to thank everybody who followed along on the adventure. It was your support and cantor that really kept the light at the end of the tunnel lit throughout this project.

If I can leave a last impression on any who see this post it would be to never doubt your own abilities. No matter how crazy the endeavor may seem, determination will win.

Cheers,
~Rev.
