The Quest for 30MPG HWY is underway...

Sounds like a bitter-sweet install... Nice of you share your entire experience.

Glad you like the output of the exhaust... Sounds like a poorly made system though... Are you going to keep it?

Have you driven in city and in highway to give impression of sound at those speeds, accelerating and cruising at say 40mph and 70-75mph and wide open throttle?

Maybe a YouTube vid of start up and idle? :)

Yes, from the pics, IMO... The tips are hanging too low... I'd prefer to hang like stock.
Also...from pics, does the left tip really stick out further than the right tip? If so hope you can adjust cause that would bother me.

I haven't been able to do those things above, I just installed it today. Total 2 hours mainly 1.5 hours trying to adjust it.

I'll be working on the videos, but first I want to perfect the system. I need to ensure no exhaust leaks. For right now I'll keep it, I think there is room for improvement and I can't get over the fact that the intake and exhaust are working in tandem.

Take it from me, everyone should wait to purchase your intake kit. This is not for everyone and I'm really dissapointed by the tube that was missing doesn't even fit the vacum line, its too big. I guess I have to use a clasp to secure it.

Again I'm not impressed by CGS overall fit and finish. I am however gonna swallow my pride and fix it. I still think it is worthwhile and if it wasn't for the exhaust tone and intake working together I would have sent it back to day!!

Sorry to hear that you have been a beta-tester for them. On the other hand, it sounds like the system as a whole has potential if you are happy with the overall effect.

Thanks again for posting, and if you get the chance some video with audio would be great-- especially if you can find someone with a stock Ex to do a side-by-side sound comparison. Maybe put the camera on the centerline between the two Explorers and 20-30 feet back, start them, let idle for 15-30 seconds, then burp the throttle a few times. Repeat with the other. Maybe a drive-away too. And while you're at it, check your messages for my Christmas list... ;-)

It does have potential just didn't want to drop more money on it, to get it corrected and have a new y-pipe design and put in.

Sorry I haven't updated, things have been busy for me with Missions, packing, and getting ready to move to Texas.

Well have 1700 miles my mileage is around 17 mpg, hope it gets better.

You're in Cali...I'm all to familiar with it and you do a lot of idling. I have very limited idling when I got back and forth from work. I have straight shot access to the turnpike or you (I) Californians the "Freeway."

Hi Tio!

Thanks for your 30MPG detail oriented experience. This has been both entertaining and educational!

Anyhow, so far I've logged 600 kms or approximately 375 miles on my 2013 Limited Ex. I'm from the Philippines and I have the A/C on everytime. My average fuel consumption thus far is 14.68 combined. I'm aware the manual says fuel consumption should be computed or noted after the break-in period of 1,000 miles or 1,600 kms.

Question on this journey of yours: Did you ever get that "BURNT OIL SMELL" inside the cabin during your testing especially under hard acceleration before installation of your mods? How about after? Just curious...

Thanks!

OK first post. I have a Ruby 2013 on the way and I have been in the hunt for all the good mods. This is a big help and your doing great work. A mustang guy at heart mods are part of the game so I found this:http://www.morepowertuning.com/2012explorer35sf3
Thought it may help I know there were questions about tuning.

EDIT: I looked the site over and found expected gains from a stock 3.5L on the MKX and Edge and it stated the same for both in gains of 17hp and 20 ft lbs TQ. Interested to see how it would all add up.
