drmoore71's new ride!

it pains me to write this. my beloved 95 xlt has been claimed by the infamous houston traffic. she was the lead truck in a three car pileup on tuesday. we were hit from behind by a honda accord which was rammed by a DAM#$D uninsured driver. luckily, i have uninsured motorist coverage and as of this morning, she has been declared a total loss. i am desperately searching for a replacement er... different explorer. while the damage may seem rather superficial, the frame is bent in three places at and around the driver rear wheel. the floor is bukled all the way up under the back seat and daylight can be seen through a seam under the seat. i am very sad, to say the least, but fortunately, (thank God!) noone was injured. here are some pics. will post the new truck soon. i have a pretty good line on a '98 eddie that will suit my needs just fine.

Sorry to hear that Doug. Glad y'all are ok. Any chance of you buying it back for a salvage title? That might end up being a good deal, then you'd have a parts and/or beater truck!

That's a shame Doug!!! Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Are they gonna do anything to the uninsured driver?? Here in PA the driver would be out of a license for at least 2 years and probably facing jail time. This state is really tough on uninsured drivers.

man that sucks... i would look into buying it back though... im sure you could find someone who could get it somewhat straight... if not close then make it a crazy off roader i wonder what would happen if someone rear ended my X? id feel bad for them.

yeah.... do a custom bobbed rear end... why not? i am doing a jeep windhield and a softop.... :)

Glad to hear nobody was hurt. You can always get a new vehicle. To bad it wasn't a 2-door I would have been interested in it.
By the pictures it doesn't look all that bad. I think the reason they totaled it is because of the year and if you had high milege. It could be fixed. If the frame is bent behind the wheels that's no big deal.

If you plan on getting in another wreck see if a 2-door can be in there someplace....
:D

Good luck finding a new ride and before you know it you will become friend with that one.

Man, you must have good brakes if the frame got bent from the rear-ender. A Kennesaw Mountain Bumper like we are getting, and it would still be like new.:(

Where was the wreck? I live down in League City and I see some awesome ones starting about now - drunk kids coming back from Galveston.

insurance companies are way too quickj to call a total.. come on! that can be saved! wheres my torch and a junk X, if frakenstein could be resurrected so can your X, and easier too!

I'm really sorry to see that man.. you can buy Xs for about $10k now tho 95-97s.. so if yer lucky ytou may be able to part yers enough to get one just like it? or maybe even better? :) those tires.. if I were you could come off, alongwith any other part that wasn't stock that I could use on my new X.

gah, thats scary... killed by a honda.. I hope they hafta pay every penny to you (I hate hondas)

Good luck!

thanks for your condolences, guys. i will not be buying her back, i was kinda hoping they would total her, cuz after the wreck, it was like one BIG rattle in there. it was just obnoxious, the horrible noises going on in there. i will be and have already told the insurance co. that i would be keeping all my piaa's, my brushguard, the borla and the 31's. they had no problem with that since i will be putting the 30's off my wife's '97 and factory exhaust on the '95. all these parts will hopefully find their way onto the '98 eddie that will presumably find it's way to my driveway next week some time. again, thanks for your condolences.

Take advantage of the loss. Get a 4x4 and the SOHC engine this time. ;)

sorry to hear about that man, im glad no one was hurt. really i wonder what the honda looks like because my mom was rear ended by a neon once and all that was wrong with hers is that the bumper looked like yours while the neons hood was in the winsheild.

Doug,

Sorry to Hear about your Loss.. Since your Looking for a replacement X are you looking for a 4x4? That way we can get you out and wheel with us some time.

actually, i bought a black 2000 sohc 4x4 on friday. i was waiting to announce the arrival of "blackie" (tentative name) till i got the pics back tonight. i have already done the tt, shackels, and put my 31's on her, and some other little stuff. i'll post some pics tonight. btw, can't wait to go 'wheeling, now!!!!!

here's the new truck! 2000 sohc 4x4 xlt. grey leather, premium sound w/sub, sunroof. i love it!
this is before:
blackie+before.jpg

here's after the 31's. removal of pinstripe, tt/shackel lift and at ko's turned around. i will be getting some black rockcrawlers soon:
blackie+after.jpg

i have also removed the emblems from the tailgate and will be installing my piaa 520's on the bumper this weekend and the 1500's will be used as backup lights on the rear bumper. i have been having fun tinkering with it already and cannot wait to take it out wheeling!

i have been kinda busy since then, so the mods are few and far between. i have finally done a 1" hockey puck body lift, in order to fit 32's next time:

and something else that may interest y'all... the paint on my factory roof rack rails was beginning to flake off:
railsb4.jpg

so i had a friend of mine shoot them with bed liner. what do you think?
railsafter.jpg

i have also put my piaa 1500xt's in the holes in the bumper between the factory fogs. pics of that will be coming soon.

cool idea, good one too, especially if you use your track a lot.

looks like you're back in business now?
