on my 2000 ford explorer xls I noticed my key would come out of the switch but the truck would still start up with no problems but the other day I was driving it and it just all of a sudden shut down and wouldn't start back but notice that the theft light is constantly blinking when I put the key and turn the switch on I thought by the key being able to com out of the switch like that may have something to do with it so I got a new lock cylinder and took it and the old one to a lock smith to change out the tumblers so my original key would work with the new lock cylinder and when I put it in and reconnected the battery turned the switch on and the light stopped blinking and the truck started back up and ran for maybe 5 minutes and shut down again and the theft light started blinking again and now it wont start up the engine just turns over but no start I tried leaving the switch on for about 20 minutes to see if the light stops blinking but it never did I tried disconnecting the battery for about 10 to 15 minutes to see if it would do anything and still nothing I don't understand it the only thing I changed was the lock cylinder be cause of what it started doing at first I could leave the key on for about 15 minutes and the light would go out and the truck would start up after that but now its like the pats system is not recognizing the key and I don't know why cause its the same original key at first it was like it would recognize the key sometimes and sometimes it wouldn't but now its like it doesn't recognize it at all now I don't know if something is wrong with the key or if I need to reset that key or what but its the only key I've got so I can't check it with another key is there some kind of way the code got erased or can I reset that key or what or maybe theres something wrong with the transceiver or something any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated cause right now I'm at a stand still

Did you ever figure it out ? The exact same thing happened to me. Coming out the freeway just died out after so long of driving it. I got towed thought it was the fuel system did the most I put it back together and it started right up when I went to try it again the day after the theft light keeps blinking and it won’t start. I did everything you did and still nothing I’m frustrated. Is it a relay, a fuse, the key, the ignition, the battery, I’m at a stand still

Check other thread
Blinking theft light = get the pats code

Very likely issue with the halo antenna that reads the chip key

i only how would i make sure ??
because i only have one key and the code it puts out is 1-6.

The pats system is telling you that it is not hearing from the halo, good key bad key it does not matter, the halo has quit talking to the receiver… that’s what 16 means
Good time to go get a key made.. while you still have a master key
I would plan to swap halo after visual inspection
