I'm having problems starting my girlfriends explorer. After a long time of no problems, it would not start at lunch toady. It turns over, however the idle stat is non-existent, so the car immediately dies. I can start the car by giving it a little gas, however once I take my foot of the gas it dies.

My question is regarding a possible “theft protection” system. I’m planning on taking this problem to a mechanic, however I noticed the “theft” light is blinking. Is this just a circumstance of having the door open / car in park / car not in park / key turned in come combination, or have I accidentally tripped a theft protection device that prevents the car from remaining in an idle?

I guess my question regards the possible anti-theft devices on explores. The car is an automantic and I believe is a 2001. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the IAC (intake air control) to me.

Thanks for the reply. After reading around I think you are correct. Its my understanding that an Air Intake Controller is a simple think to fix. Any suggestions on where to research some solutions?

Well, youre already at the right place.

some light searching for IAC should turn up buckets full of information.
