If you are dealing with plastic threads or inserts in the plastic, don't over tighten them. I'd say use a 1/4" ratchet or a hand driver, and use wrist strength, not the arm. Meaning maybe 5-10lbs.ft or so. There are rubber seals there I think, which don't need a ton of torque.

BTW if you have a leak of the T housing itself, I read that the later 2002 version is possible to install, and cheaper to buy. It takes different sensors to match, there is a thread about that here somewhere. Welcome,

Well according to the Haynes manual it specifies 78 to 92 in-lbs for the 4.0L SOHC v6.

question.. surely not that much torque on a plastic thermo housing or are they ?

I'm just reading my Haynes manual.
Yeah, I hate some of these plastic parts. I don't think my intake plenum could take another un-install re-install procedure without one of the screw holes getting stripped.

Are you thinking of changing your thermostat? Or you have a leak? I think mine leaks every now and then.

And don't call me Shirley. :D

thank you, surely..ha,ha.... been leaking for about year, bought the whole unit, just needed to know the correct torque on the three bolts...thxs

Alldata is calling for 10Nm or (89in. lbs)

Very good, a torque spec, that's about 7-8lbs.ft. As I said, do it with your wrist/hand, not your arm. It is easy to apply more force than is needed. That is a snug tightness for most people.

thank you for info.....try to replace this weekend..thxs
