Not got an Explorer now..
Here's hoping one of our American / Canadian members can help me.
I have failed miserably to source a replacement thermostat for my 1999 4.0 SOHC Ex. My local Ford dealer can't even find a part number and the local motor spares shops don't have it listed in their catalogues. I have found a specialist US Parts importer who can get me one shipped over from the US in 14 - 21 days at an equivalent cost of around (inc S&H) $55 US dollars...
Now c'mon, they've gotta be cheaper than that! I'm hoping one of you guys over there could do me a real favor and find a thermostat & O-ring and get it shipped over to me. I can pay via PayPal and I would be happy to pay for your time as well as the shipping costs. I'm sure somebody can beat $55 US dollars...
Or maybe point me to a US parts supplier that offers international shipping at a sensible rate...

TIA
Simon H

Thanks for the link to Rock Auto. I just ordered a 'stat and O-ring at a cost of $37.01 USD inc S&H to the UK. Paid by PayPal, which was very convenient for me. That's £20.17 GBPounds according to PayPal.

Thanks,

Glad you found it!

When I replaced mine last summer, it cost $30 US at the dealership, so $55 to ship to the UK doesn't sound like such a bad deal.

I'm pretty surprised that the Ford dealership couldn't find the part though... Seems like it would have been pretty easy for them to call a dealership in the US to get a part number if that was all they needed...

UK thermostats are in Celsius and work with metric coolant. A US thermostat is Farenheit and won't open when faced with litres or imperial gallons. :D

Now, that is funny....... :D .

And, I'm surprised that a local parts store wouldn't have one. FORD Motor Co. parts and vehicles, are all over the world for GOD sake. Or, there would/should at least be an equivalent sized one (in mm).

Aloha,Mark

No doubt... that engine was made in Germany, so if anything, I would think the parts would have been cheaper! I mean, to ship it from Germany to the UK shouldn't be a big deal, right? I mean, the UK is like the size of the Westmoreland Mall, right? You could practically walk there, right? (Obscure movie reference.... see EuroTrip)
