What "auto" feature are you speaking of.

if you're talking about auto 4wd, nonsense. lots of guys on here have it, with massive trucks. just do your research before you spend any money. talk to guys here, google stuff. just don't spend any money until someone with a red name tells you it's ok!

So i called pungo

Done here in da V.A. there is really only one place to get your truck lifted and thats pungo off road. But i called them and they said they didnt make lifts for my truck and the best they could do would be a 3 inch body lift for around $650 does that sound right? Because i was really looking to lift it around 6 inches.

Pungo says

To the best of his knowlegde they only made lifts for explorers untill 97 is that true? My hopes kinda just fell.:(

Superlift makes a lift kit for 1996-2001 Four Door & '96-03 04 Sport (never can remeber the last year for the Sport).

The shop does not know what they are talking about or worse yet they don't care because it's an Explorer.

And if ya wanna high dollar lift then look into Camburg and RCD.

So whats up with the driveshaft?

Ive heard from superlift that if i get that 4' superlift the front driveshaft is likely to break. How true is that?

Or black names. They are better!

Not if you use a double cardin joint in the front. If it was true, do you really think that SuperLift would be selling the 4" lif kit for the Explorer?
There are plenty of SuperLift kits out there on Explorers and no one has complained about this that I'm aware of.
There is not much difference between the Superlift and the Trailmaster lift kits other than SuperLift uses extended steering knuckles and Trailmaster uses the steering knuckle extender on the OEM steering knuckles and a sliding mechanism for the rack and pinion, but everything else is pretty much the same. I have the Trailmaster 4" kit on my 97 and my drive shaft hasn't been any problem.

Sorry im new at this

So why pay more for a suspension lift when a body lift will do pretty much the same thing?

it depends on what exactly you are trying to do. The body lift lifts just the body. All the mechanical parts stay right where they are. The suspension lift lifts everything except for the axles. The suspension lift gives you more room for flex and gets all those parts that cost big bucks further from the rocks on the ground that destroy them.
which one is best for you depends entirely on what you plan to do with it.

and also you're gonna be hard pressed to find a 6" body lift unless you make it yourself. and then when you drive the truck, the second you go in any direction other than straight theres a really good chance that youll end up a member of the rollover posse.

You don't need a 6" body lift to put 33's on. GJarrett runs 35's with a 3" body lift. Of course He did a lot of trimming, but it worked, and Gerald has taken his Explorer on some of the best wheeling spots in the U.S.

i once crawled a speedbump with 33's !

A body lift will lift the actual body off the frame of the vehicle. While a suspension lift increases your travel and lifts everything up higher.. Basically if you're looking for a show truck go with a body lift, if you want to offroad do a suspension lift. You don't have to but its the basic idea.

If you want pics of what a body lift does I can try and take a few pics on my lunch hour.

Alright didn't get around to posting up the pics on my lunch break so here ya go. Notice the difference between the frame and body.

First pics is of the body lift in the rear wheel well.
