Thinking about buying a 2006 Explorer Eddie Bauer around 95,000 miles. Any advice? Why we should/should not buy? Possible problems to look for at certain mileage etc. I am a bit concerned about the mileage on this particular vehicle. Thanks!

I like my '06 V-6 XLS. I've owned 3 X's, all v-6's and got about 180K out of the first two, and I'm working on 70K on my current '06. I'm glad I didn't know about all the radiator issues before I bought my '06 a couple of years ago. So far I've been lucky with my radiator. IMO 95K is a lot of miles, so try and get as much history on the vehicle as you can.

I own, and my wife drives a 2006 EB w/V8, we both love it, has plenty of power, plenty of space, and can tow a house...

The only thing I wish we did was get a 2007, for a few reasons:

1. The 2007 has its door handles located in a better position on the inside.
2. The 2007 has auxiliary input as standard so I can plug in my Zune and listen to tunes instead of having to burn an MP3 cd...
3. The 2007 doesn't seem to have had any of the transmission bump/thud issues when starting from a rolling stop (mine did, but I had the computer flashed by the dealer and it's yet to come back, 15K and counting).

All in all, if the 2006 is a great deal, go for it, but I would hold out for an '07 if I had it to do over again.

Best of luck!

It's a great vehicle, I love mine, but there are a few things to look out for. Is it the V6 or V8? If it's the V6 see what the deal with the radiator is and if it's the V8 see if the spark plugs have been replaced yet. The door handles are annoying, but you get used to it I suppose. Mine does have the transmission bump sometimes, I still haven't gotten that worked on. Overall, though, it's a great car and mine has been reliable so far.

-My 05 V6 X does that transmission bump sometimes too.
-Well as long as those 95K miles were 96K-well-maintained miles, then you should be fine. I think that for that year of explorer that's high mileage. The two explorers I have I love. Wouldn't trade them for anything...except a newer one maybe. I would see if you could get the carfax, and see if you can find out a maintenance record. My 98 X has 170K miles on it, still runs strong, but its been well maintained, and my 05 X has 61K, and runs good, but my turn signal sucks. Doesn't work sometimes. :(
Other than that I don't know much about an 06. I think they are just a redesign of the 02-05 explorers.
And if its got the V6 engine, not sure if the V8's has the same issue, there is unfortunately no transmission dipstick.
