I had my car 22 Ex in for service (at a non-dealer) and noticed the third brake light did not light up. The other two are ok. Before I start tearing things apart, has anyone experienced this and what was the cause. I wouldn't think it's a fuse because that would affect everything. Anyway, suggestions would be appreciated. I'll look around the forum too.

Have this issue on our 2018 Expedition. Haven't gotten around to pulling the spoiler to see how it looks inside.
I've heard that some [Expeditions] have had water intrusion into the light housing & it had to be replaced...

I'm guessing that your vehicle is longer under warranty due to mileage. I did a quick search and didn't find any other posts about that specific brake light. I believe there are threads on it in the 5th gen forum.

I agree, probably water got in so I'd pull the light and see if power is getting to it, and of course, double check the fuses because you might have overlooked what isn't working... it is probable that the 3rd brake light is not fused on same circuit as left and right, to safeguard against losing all brake lights at once.

Looking at the fuse listing, I did not see a fuse for that light or the regular brake lights if I recall correctly.

^ Then it seems most likely fuse(s) are either in the BCM, or may be fuse(s) only listed as being for the BCM.

I believe that ever since the 2016 Explorer refresh, more and more control has shifted to the BCM as many fuses listed in prior year models disappeared from the list.

Thanks for the insight. I'll check around the area on the spoiler.

Thanks, Peter. I also took a peek around the forum and didn't see anything specific. I'll check the BCM. I did go in several months ago and disabled the bulb out warning when I switched out the regular turn bulbs.

The connection is easy to access. Pull the center trim piece at the top of the rear window. The connector is to the left of center, gray wire and a yellow wire.

Thanks! I'll check it out. Since it is a new Ex, it may just fix itself. ;)
