Before i begin, I am pretty certain this should be posted somewhere else, please move it accordingly if necessary...

OK, so i was having trouble with my transmission, then it went out.. so i replaced it with a used one.
But, just as before i changed it, my O/D light was/is blinking.. so i was sitting there with the mechanic while he was going through some kind of blog of sorts checking the codes he got from it, (Which of course i cannot remember now) and i read it with him, it said that;

"If the third brake light is not working it can effect the O/D status and put the transmission into safety mode"

Now while I'm not sure if this is actually true, i did do some searching, all over the forum here and the net, i found nothing that says this..

however, in the mean time my transmission is in safety mode, and it doesn't shift into high gear...
So i am really at a loss of what to do next, I mean does this light actually have an effect on the transmission?
If not, what else should i look for or try to resolve my issue..

Truck Specs: '95 XLT 4x4, A4LD Transmission, 4.0 V6

Note, I have an LED strip ordered and should be here sometime this week.. (I Hope..), I plan on using some information (Which of course I found here on this forum) to replace the fluorescent light/ballast setup..

I have never heard of a light affect something so serious as the transmission. The only way that would happen if someones wiring harness burnt up and started touching a whole bunch of wires and grounding different things. Might want to bring it to a new mechanic if possible

thats weird bc my overdrive off light has been blinking and my transmission slips here and there. my third tail light is also out. hopefully we get a good answer from someone soon before my tranny goes also.

well, i finally got my high mount brake light fixed this weekend, (Nice bright LED strip)...
disconnected the negative battery cable for a while, a good couple hours at least while i was working on the light...
when i reconnected it my O/D light wasn't blinking anymore, but after i drove it for a mile or two it started blinking again..
so again i am at a loss as what the issue is...
I'm going to try and get the codes pulled for it sometime this week, maybethen i can track down what the problem is..

I wish they made an l.e.d 3rd brake light for my 02 sport.

I did take mine in for the transmission. And the codes came up as the gear ratios were off. So I'm actually having it rebuilt for 1500 which isn't bad. But the main thing is the bands go bad on the gears and u need to get the transmission oil changed every 12,000 and u shouldn't get that problem nemore.

Did ur explorer's transmission slip but also in about 3rd gear does it feel jumpy? Like shifting up then dropping back down?

As far as the light, i just bought a red led strip from superbrightled.com and got rid of the fluorescent bulb and ballast, cost like 16$ for the strip..

with the transmission, it was slipping between 1st and 2nd, so i had it replaced with a used one from a friend, but this one doesn't go into the high gear, and my O/D light keep flashing, so im not sure..

Normally i try to fix what i can myself, but this is beyond me..

So u just wired it urself? Bc thats what I was thinking. I still have some left over from when I did vanity lighting in mine. So just take out the bulb and slip it in.

Same here I'm a DIY kinda guy. So its not going into 3rd or 4th? That's odd. I woulda said keep the old one and replace the bands for the 2nd gear. And about it not going to high gear...? I have no clue.

Truck Specs: '95 XLT 4x4, A4LD ? Transmission, 4.0 V6

Are you sure this is a A4Ld
It should be a 4R55E in a 95

I used this thread for the light repair;
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237636

I bought the LED strip from here http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Flight_bars-flexible.html WFLS-x30 (30 LED strip), the 19.5" strip with red LEDs..
Instead of building an led board as shown in the thread, thats the only difference.. I did have to cut the last three LEDs off of the strip, but it gives you a safe place to cut the strip at..

(Slips back on topic..)

Yeah, i should have kept it, but i didn't and now its gone. =(

So i guess the only thing i can do is get the codes pulled and go from there..

Yeah, that's what they told me it was.. I personally wouldn't know the difference... but every one that has looked at it has told me that's what it was..

Ya I forgot to ask u. It has to b the 4r55e. So the only thing now is get those codes. I heard u can go to autozone. Kragen/orielly and get the codes done for free. So its worth a try or atleast give em. Call and ask.

But thanks for the led hint and good luck man
