Hello All,

New 2017 Platinum owner here. Love the car so far. Can't believe these "trucks" have gotten so luxurious with great power to boot.

The only complaint is the right side, third row seat's inability to correctly stow 100% of the time. More than half the times I try it, the seat back doesn't fold forward enough and when the entire seat rolls back, the seat back either hits against the plastic hatch opening at the floor and bounces back, or forcibly pushes its way past it and pops down into place.

If I push against the seat back as the entire seat rolls back, I can get it to continue it's folding towards the cushion as it continues to roll back, enough to clear the back opening, but that seems pretty harmful for the seat/motor.

Obviously, I will take this into service to have it all checked out, but I'm wondering if there's a quick fix or better workaround to use in the meantime. And hopefully, this is a minor mechanical or software adjustment and not some major, time-consuming replacement.

Thanks for any info!
Paul

Welcome to the Forum Paul.
Are doing this with the engine running or off? I had a similar issue with my 2011 when the engine was off. It worked better with it running. Could have been that the battery was too weak with the engine off.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "plastic hatch opening at the floor". Are you referring to that removable plastic piece that you have to remove in order to take the spare tire cover off?

Hi Peter. Thanks for the response.

Yes, that removable plastic piece at the very back of the cargo space is exactly what I was referring to. I don't think I've tried it with the engine running, but I would hope a brand new (200 miles) battery would be enough to do the job. I'll try it, though.

On a related note, prior to this problem, I had a problem getting that seat to roll back at all - it would go up 30 degrees and bounce back down. But that turned out to be that black, triangular piece of metal that is spring loaded and normally fits underneath the flat bottom floor board. Once I re-hooked that into place, I got to the point where we are now. I'm thinking the two are somehow related.

The underneath part likely disengaged when the seat was obstructed. I had the same thing happen once with my 2011. There should be sufficient clearance between the folded seat back and that removal piece. I've never had an issue with that part. That plastic piece is removable if it is causing a problem. It is mainly a 'filler' between the folded seat and the vehicle's frame. It has to be removed in order to take the spare tire cover out.
The batteries in my vehicles don't tend to stay topped up due the limited amount of driving I do. Picked it up on Oct. 31st and am just coming up to 2000 miles.

Yeah, that piece comes out for proper access to the spare tire, with a larger sized thumb locking device... not sure what that's called. It might have just come loose. Seats shouldn't touch it at all.
