I want to install a third-row seat in an '02 XLT. Will a third-row seat from an Expedition fit?

We own one of each and it's highly doubtful you could put the larger expedition third row into the explorer. Maybe find one in a junk....oops...recycling yard.

Thanks for the quick reply! The Expedition seat would have been basically free so I was hoping to go that route. Guess I'll hit the recycling yards:)

You can't just get one out of anther explorer and put it in as it will not fit, the floor pans are very different.

So even if I find a seat at a junkyard from another '02 XLT it might not fit?

Correct

One from another 3rd gen explorer will fit, you just need to buy everything from the 2nd row back, including the second row seats, there's a how to thread about it...

Reading the how-to thread now. Thanks!!

unless there is something i'm not aware of that not corrects. Floor Pans are exactly the same to bolt holes. I've seen a couple of JY body/frames stripped down; in fact several have swapped from 2row to 3row or the other way.

You really need a alot of stuff though.
-2nd row needs to convert to fold-n-tumble so you can get in back, or remove the center seat for a walk through.

-3rd row, 3rd row seat of course, seat belts, Trim for the 'D' pillar, to fit the seat belts.

I thought there was a thread with pictures, in searching i found these:

This guy did a 4th gen 3rd row into a 3rd gen much more work.

I only searched on '3rd row' in the 3rd gen section 200 posts, i didn't check them all but this should get you started.

Thanks for the links. My second row seats are 60/40 and both fold down. I've located a third-row seat at a junkyard, now it's just a matter of installing it. Hopefully it won't be too complicated.

to clarify, mine not only fold down but then the rear lifts up to allow someone to crawl in behind it, or some remove the center seat as another option . . .
good luck.

You are right, sorry about that thought they where different.:banghead:

Found this one on ebay. Think it would work in my '02 XLT?

Item #320704317181
Description: This is a third row seat from Little Passenger Seats. This was installed in a 97 Ford explorer and can go in one from 1991 to 2001, possibly other vehicles. This seat is Tan, leather, has 3 seat belts (2 shoulder & 1 lap) and headrests. This mounts very easy into the back of the cargo area. It mounts using 4 bolts. I have all of the mounting brackets and hardware. Very easy to install, uses existing mounting bolts to install brackets and you then drill 4 holes for the main bolts.

No clue, but I don't think so, those were meant to be mounted rear facing on the cargo area of 1st and 2nd gens, it might need a flat mounting area and the 3rd gens have a moulded floor that fits either the cargo cover or the 3rd row seat...
