latest....

The reason I brought it back to the same dealer was because I thought the "check engine" light might have been related to the fix they did on the cam chain tensioner.
The dealer says Ford will cover the "exhaust gas pressure sensor", I have to pay for the $891 cracked "a/c plenum chamber", and I already paid $860 for the replaced cam chain tensioner. All on a one year old vehicle.
Yo "Namitey", I think you're missing the whole point. I don't really blame the dealership, they're just following Fords lead. My view is Ford is running a scam, they have all this marketing to promote Ford, but hide the fact that they don't stand behind their products. They do everything they can to avoid having to fix known defects part of one of their own "owner notification programs". Maybe all the auto companies are about the same as far as screwing their customers, I'll start finding out with my next vehicle, because it won't be a Ford, it'll be one of the manufacturers rated tops by J.D. Powers.

Once again I will ask: why are you having to pay out of pocket for a one year old vehicle? Why is the warranty not being honored?

Every car can have problems. My Dad had a Ford Station Wagon and it went over 100,000, the same with our old Mercury Station Wagon.

I had a Dodge, it did pretty well- 76,000. And my dad had a Dodge that at 70,000 the tranny went.

There are so many makes and models and actual cars that anyone can have a problem with any car.

Though I do have a question, what about your previous Fords? If you had problems with them, then why do you keep buying Ford? But if you hadn't then maybe its just this one that was a dud.

Sounds like to me the dealer is ramming it home to you and you are letting them do it . If the AC plenum is broken Id bet it's due to them working on the engine and lifting it into the plastic housing and busting it . AC parts like that last a LIFETIME !! We are talking about plastic parts .... unless it was a blend door that broke or motor for it .
The engine light Id bet was due to the dealer also . If it popped on right after the service was done you can be sure they caused it . Could even be a hose or wire come loose .
Id find another dealer for the vehicle and have them look at the problems . ALSO if you have it repaired by this dealer again make sure you tell them you want them to GIVE you the parts that have been replaced (as long as it's not warranty) if they say they have to keep the parts for warranty and are making you pay tell them to bite it . Don't let them push you around .......... get some back-bone and stop crying to us . If they are f'n around with you stomp a hole in thier ass . Don't take it and cry about Ford's quality , make them repair the vehicle correctly . If they piss you off be sure to make a phone call to the Better Busniess Buearu and file a complaint . Also file a complaint at the FTC (Federal Trade Commission ) . This will result in letters and phone calls from people who WILL MAKE THE DEALER DO THE RIGHT THING . BBB complaints are bad for car dealers since lots of older folks check the BBB before buying a car and dealers don't like complaints . Call the dealer and ask the receptionist who the owner is ... chances are it's a big company like Budget that owns it . If so , be sure to call whoever owns the dealer and rip on them .
Complaining to us won't get your car fixed ... being a pain in the ass to the dealer will . Remeber the squeaky wheel gets the grease .

If you had to pay for your cam tensioners and you're truck isn't over the milage limit, then you my friend are getting ****ed by your dealer

i must agree.. most mechanics are lazy *****es, who do awful jobs, break stuff, and charge ya.. i just had a radiator flush cuz i was out of town.. next thing you know, siezed head gasket due to a radiator blowout...

goodbye explorer.

hello s-10.

Don't dump the X

Lets just say that the S-10 is no better than the Limited X you have. I have buddies who have nothing but trouble with there S-10 blazers. Brand new S-10, a guy from my work who drives approx 60 miles round trip a day and after 15,000 miles 3 of his fuel injectors had to be replaced. Come on I have a 93 X and non of mine had to be replaced and I have 115,000 on it. Another buddy just forked out 900 dollars to have some sensors and upper and lower ball joints go, which the dealer said is a common thing on a S-10. Lets just say if you get one you will be sorry that you didn't keep the X which is a much better truck and worth more at the time of selling or trading it in

sometimes you accept a lemon for a lemon, and move on.

900 bucks for ball joint!? damn thats alot of money. I did them on my explorer myself. took me a day to do.

I'd rather stick with an Explorer thats a lemon than ah, ah, ah  s-10;)

Man, I love our trucks, I've had no probs at all with my 94' and my mom has had no probs with any of her mountys.

Agreed. Do not buy GM. You will only be kicking yourself in the next week or two when the rotors warp and the water pump goes out...it happens on almost all GM vehicles sometime in their lifetime  S-10 is trash. Get a Silverado if you HAVE to go GM, but I highly advise sticking with Ford. While their cars may no be the best (POS AX4N Transmission *mumbles*) the Explorer is an amazingly strong vehicle. I love my X :D The thing takes all kinds of punishment, and just keeps asking for more of it.

funny that you mentioned that, my moms boyfriend has had constant rotor problems on his Avalanche and was just at the shop again for them last week. He's also had the water pump go out twice already. Thats why he just bought a new Acura TL Type S so he doesn't run into all these problems and to keep miles off, he's already way over what the lease is and still has about 1 year left. He had a lot of problems with his Silverado that he leased before the Avalanche.

Another girl I know at school has constant problems with her Tahoe dealing with breaks, rotors, engine, and both fuel and water pumps.

My cousin bought a S-10 XTREME for work cause he's in consruction, he can't wait to get rid of cause of all the problems he's had with it. Actually he want a bad ass off road Explorer now, so if any of you "Rick" want to sell....

Yet not one person I know with an Explorer has had any problems, and I know 10 guys alone at college with Explorers.

Haha! I love hearing stories about GM vehicles having problems. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but it just seems like GM owners think they are the high and mighty domestic breed, and Ford and Chrysler are useless. It's in my opinion that Ford is way above GM in quality. You ever sat in a Camaro and then a Mustang? I think the Mustang wins hands down.

And yes, I had a Buick before that blew a water pump and always had brake problems. It also had a transmission that decided to fail, and an a/c clutch that oddly enough stopped working when the transmission shred itself up...

Im sorry but anyone who thinks just ford is crap is a dip shi*. Yes , granted every car company has its problems, i remember readin in a magazine that s-10's were having some strange melt down problem where the block would explode and set the entire front end of the truck on fire. well since your not going to buy a ford again makek sure to wear your fire retardent suit and carry a fire extinguisher, or 4. O , and have a spare engine on hand too. I have never heard of a ford motor blowing up from the factory. with the excuse or retards who shouldnt drive a car because they dont know how to take care of them. I think that You are more of a problem to ford than ford is to you. I have a friend with a 2000 ranger who is so dumb he thought he could put a 4 barrel on it. If that doesnt show you how dumb some people are he didnt get his first oil change untill 12,000 miles. 12,000. and not 1 problem has he had with his truck. Except for when he tried to put a cd player in him self and started his dash on fire. DONT ASK ME HOW HE PULLED THAT OFF. im just saying take care of your car regardless Make/model and it will take care of you. O and FORD KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ford is definitley the best in quality for American Automakers. Of course they have their Lemons also and problems but not as severe as say this girl last year at my school had the complete front axle assembly fall off the truck (02' Trailbalzer).

And yes, the Mustang is hands down way more comfortable, rides better, and has way better quality. So the Camaros are a little quicker when stock, Mustangs are easier to mod and respond better, I absolutley hate being in my friends 96' Z28 (lt1 engine) and another friends 02' SS Camaro (ls1 engine), yeh, their fast, but thats it, the engine is the only good point about them; really just the LS1 IMO which is a sweet engine, I don't particularly care for the LT1. But the seats are uncomfortable as hell, has that friggen hump in the interior, quality sucks, and feels like your sitting in a boat. Threres a reason why the Mustang demolished it in sales...it may not have been faster but it was a better overall package.

Plus - who can deny that 4.6 sohc and dohc growl:D

CSJ... I think I can help you with your problems... e-mail me if you are interested!

CSJ--you mentioned the rocking of the power seat. Can you elaborate on this and did you fix it? Might have a problem like this.

Thanks!

I have a '96 that just turned 89k miles. I'm on my third transmission, second rear axle and have replaced every sensor under the hood. I've babied this truck since it was new and while it still looks new, it is literally falling apart around me. Now I'm getting the infamous 171 & 174 codes. I've owned umpteen Ford products over the years and while I was bent to make this Explorer see 100k, I'm ready to toss in the towel on Fords and look for success elsewhere in transportation. My '66 Stang was built when Ford still had pride in manufacturing and didn't care to screw the consumers through their mal-informed dealerships, operating on their less than quality products. Ford needs to look really hard at their slogan...."Job One"?

Frustrated with Fords

You know, I'm beginning to think that the Explorer falls apart when it is babied. I drive this truck like a bat out of hell and I have YET to break one single part on it at 92K miles. I think my truck is built better than just about any vehicle out there on the road. I haven't ever seen a 2000 model year vehicle that was built in May 2000 that has 92,000 hard city miles put on it, and hasn't even needed a radiator flush.

This truck is just plain awesome. It's fun to drive, accelerates quickly (Thank you SOHC), and it has a very generous amount of room, and the 2nd row fold down seats make for a nice bed. The Explorer truly is one of the best vehicles ever made. It was the starter of the big SUV craze, and it is still the king. Chevrolet and all the other autom-makers can kiss my Ford loving ass :p :D
