Three Aussie Mechanics cannot repair the axle seals- Unable to remove C clips in rear 8.8 Diff

Will follow the advice and fill it with grease to hold the spring in place. Very aware to avoid damage to seal when installing the axles. I have a couple spare just in case. $8 good insurance

Well Guys,
I have finally received the special diff oil and the tools for bearing/seal installation, so now starts the step by step process to get the diff back together again.

1.Should I use brake cleaner then enhancer on the two clutch systems, comments
2. Bearings- saw someone recommend putting anti-seize film on bearings, comments please
3. Seals- following recommendation to put grease inside the oil seals to hold spring in place
4. Grease shaft spline?, comments please
5. Should I take the upper centre gear out to locate what was holding the Central Pin which fell after I hit it past 1/2 way the top gear and use emery paper in the gears and pin to smooth any grooves or just hit it back in
6.The locking pin is in good condition but will use loctite as recommended on pin
7. Have gasket maker to use on cover, will torque to specifications

I appreciate that there is a lot of questions, but after the tribulations to get here- buying tools from o'seas , buying and trying two types of bearing pulley. Locating and buying special oil. Having to purchase a new shaft, when old one damaged. Reluctantly using old lug bolts when none available in Australia. I really do not want to stuff it up.

But I still would not have got here without all the help, suggestions and photos from a multiple of members in this forum and all I can say in a BIG THANK YOU to you all

1.Brake cleaner wouldn't hurt and its what the shops do around here to clean out all the sludge
If I paid for it I would say it better be cleaned out. It is optional..
2.idk about anti sieze specific compund on the bearings but gear oil would be perfect. No grease On those.
3. Grease would be good plenty should be okay on the seals.
4. U shouldn't REALLY have to grease the splines but It might help...just a little bit.
5. Don't emery paper anything
6. Loctite is good and should be used on the retaining bolt.
7. Sounds good on the gasket maker... I would use a little extra and give it alot of time to dry before filling maybe 1/2 days.

I hate differential gaskets. Gasket maker is better///grey rtv just squeeze on ant torque it down... Would be best. And yea if u do grease the bearings that wouldn't be good... Diff oil is preferred..

I think all the other guys have given up on me.
I read somewhere that I should protect the rear oil seal from the brake cleaner, is that right.
I think you are saying don't touch centre pin/ gear just belt it back in?

No, 410 fortune, Mr Brooks, donalds and the other guys are probably asleep by now but... As long as that pin looks good.. Like under a flashlight no cracks or anything...looks good Yes just push it in with your finger but brake cleaner WILL melt down any rubber parts if spraying directly on them so yea keep it away from the pinion seal and ANYTHING else sensitive... Don't spray directly on the gears but just enough around that area to clear sludge. Brake cleaner is too popular here I wouldn't go out and buy it but, example I got 3 new cans just waiting for a project.. You can definitely clean the pin...as far as out JUST a good blast maybe 1/4 of a can from a foot away would do/ rags ... U don't want spotless and cleaning is optional just clearing out any old oil. I wouldn't use brake cleaner to clean the gears either but it's common practice to just blast it and letting all the crud come out.

No ma'am

Protect all rubber seals boots etc...
If possible IF

Yes just leave it
Be sure to clean out the threads for the locking pin so the lock tight can stick

Take your time
Won't hurt to take pictures and post your progress
