I want to put a bigger throttle body on my x, it is a 93 4.0L OHV. I don't have the know how to do any machining. just a bolt on.

A larger throttle body is a waste of money without a lot of other mods to make it necessary. Get a KKN intake and a catback exhaust instead. Huge gains. Max torque is between 2000-3000 RPM anyway, which doesn't require even close to enough airflow to need a larger than stock TB..

really anime, that was really helpful, what about getting a larger maf, and a cone filter? i do plan on putting in a flow master muffler

higher rpms is defined as what?
about 3200?

my redline is 5000, but my rpm limiter is at 4200

a few more horsepower, a better air to gas mixture resulting in not only more hp but hopefully a few more mpgs

thers a thread exactly like this that just got started too..please use the search it will probably give you more help then starting a thread on a general topic liek this

Forget larger Throttle Bodies, Throttle Body spacers, MAFs, Tornado air spinner doohickeys, and all that. If you want a quicker ride, start with having a fresh set of OEM Motorcraft spark plugs, good spark plug wires (if you wanna spend the $$$ get Magnecor), a KKM filtercharger kit, and that Flowmaster muffler (2-2.25 inch, no larger)
Assuming everything else is in good tune and the tires are good, once you get those new shocks, you can expect your ride to scoot pretty good compared to before. The MPG's do go down when you get the KKM get and exhaust, though. Mostly because it's tough to keep your foot out of it for awhile.

isnt the kkm filtercharger just a cone filter?

just bought new spark wires a few months ago, bout to get new sparkplugs. cause i ran seafoam through, and i have the upper intake manifold gasket that i have to replace. but isnt the kkm filter charger just a cone filter, and there is really no need to put a bigger filter, if the extra air wont fit through the maf. do you really lose mpgs other than yur foot? some people say you gain mpgs.

Get Motorcraft plugs. Some auto parts stores might have them cheaper than the dealer.

The KKM kit is a cone filter with an adapter for the MAF. Cone filters are pretty much a standard size for aftermarket kits, due to their shape and the amount of filter area, a larger filter isn't really needed unless you're running something with 8 cylinders or more. Filters don't put "extra air" through the MAF, they simply allow a less restricted flow of air, letting the engine suck more air than a stock filter/airbox assembly. Usually, more air means more fuel to make the proper air/fuel mix, so in most cases, MPG goes down. If you take it easy, MPG can stay the same or improve, since the engine can make the same torque as before, but at a lower RPM, which means less fuel dumped and burned.

yeah but isnt the maf the most restrictive part of the intake? other than the air box. motorcraft platinum or what?

Yes, the MAF is the most restrictive, other than the air filter assembly, but theres reasons for this stuff. If a wide-open air intake really worked best, everyone would just be running air scoops straight into the throttle body. A larger MAF does no good unless the stock one is a bottleneck and is preventing air flow the engine NEEDS. The 4.0L OHV doesn't require a larger MAF or TB without a lot of other extensive modifications. If you feel the need to spend your money on it, go ahead and try it and see how it does.

Motorcraft "Platinum Plus" is what the OEM plugs used to refer to, though when I bought new ones a few months ago, they were simply "Platinum"...but clearly better than the earlier plug design. You'll probably have to just ask for them as the Motorcraft plugs for a '91 Explorer, anyway.
