Bored at work so I thought I'd go home and look to see how much slop was at the end of my throttle cable in my 96EB. With engine turned off (of course) I pushed the pedal to the floor then pulled the pedal back resulting in about 5/8+" of cable excess. Not really quite enough to fold over and tie with cable ties so I opted for installing a split topedo fishing weight and crimped it shut around the cable (between the cable's factory's crimped end and the spring) leaving about 1/16-1/8" of visable cable. Jumped in the vehicle and took off back to work.

All I can say is I might need to go to the doctor for a possible case of whiplash. My 96 almost takes off as fast as my 91EB---Weehaa!! :D

Thanks to all for the wonderful tip....

are you trying to imply that you have a 91 explorer thats "fast?" hahaha. j/k, congrats on the new mod :)

tbomb,
There is no comparision between my two vehicles when is came to accelleration. Even my son said "Dad are you dragging an anchor behind your 96?". Let's see what he say tonight !!

really?! i used to have a 91 sport and that thing was slower than a dead slug, heh.

Maybe his 96 is slower that a dead slug carring another dead slug on his back.

:)

i dont understand can someone please fill me in on the whole mod to the throttle cable

it's just removing the slack in the throttle cable. look under your dash/steering wheel and see where the throttle cable meets the pedal. now pull up on the pedal and you'll see the slack. what i did is just fill in that extra space with zip ties.

does that explain it? if not pm me and i'll try to do it better

do a search for "throttle cable mod". there is a very instructive thread about it in here somewere.

i just did it too. look for those dry wall plastic screw plug.... and cut it to size, slice it where u can open it on one side and slide it into the slack. i just did it and can we say, zoom zoom zoom. oh me so happy:p

oh ok i get:D

Why can't other parts of life be so simple.:p

Doesn't this cause your accelerator pedal rest position to be closer to you than before?

Jason

yes but difference in that way in minimal. basically by getting rid of the slack it allows your throttle body butterfly to open up all the way. thus achieving wide open throttle with the butterfly at a 90 degree angle. whereas before you weren't getting it to 90 degrees you were a few degrees or more off. it makes a diff trust me.
