Tick?

I’m having a little tick with my 96 5.0 when cold. I figure it’s either a lifter or the exhaust manifold, but I had a few questions. Could this be to a torque converter noise? I’m currently having shutter issues. I’ve heard they can tick when lose. Would it be possible as it stops once warm? Sorry if there is already a form.

Sounds like a lifter tick. If thats the case you can try using seafoam in the oil following the bottles instructions. this will flush out and dissolve oil sludge and buildup and may free the lifter.

If it is an exhaust leak you can check and find it by soaking the exhaust with soapy water on it while it is cold, and watching for bubbles. (you have to be quick though).

torque converter tick can be from a cracked flexplate and that will not go away with temperature.

if it is shuddering, you might want to check transmission fluid quality and level. and potentially get your bands adjusted,

Alright I will try both of those. I’m at 207,000 miles, so in the next couple months I’ll have a rebuilt transmission put in. Thanks.

If its a mani leak you can try to spray it with soap water and see if it bubbles.

True this one used to have a small leak that would take about 10s to go away. Now its got a big leak in the muffler seam that Im too lazy to address haha.

Lifter. I’ve had very good results adding a bunch of seafoam to my oil (according to instructions) and running that for a while.
