2006 Mercury Mountaineer
About a month ago, my mountaineer began making a ticking noise. I dont hear it while in park (idle or reving). When I put it in drive and accelerate, that's when I hear it. The rate of the ticks get faster the more I accelerate. Release the gas while moving and the noise goes away. It's a 2006 6 cyl with 130k . Other than that noise it feels like it's running fine. I've had it 1 year and have done regular oil changes under 3k miles, new oem plugs, wires, fuel filter. The only different thing i had done to it before the noise began was switch to synthetic oil a month prior.

My regular mechanic says it sounds like a problem with fuel/air mixture but no codes are popping up. Any suggestions?

BTW: When going through tunnels the noise seems to be way louder on the passenger side

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll take it to the muffler shop monday. Wish me luck

Any time. Happy to hear it was such a minor issue.
