hey guys, here is the deal with my 2000 Explorer: most of the time when I try to start the car it will either start and then die or just not start at all....the engine does turn but the rpms barely raise at all. Then if i turn the key again and just tap the gas it kicks right in. I was wondering if this was symptoms of a malfunctioning/bad IAC. Last year my IAC was making the infamous "humming" noise but that stopped awhile ago but I thought its possibly still causing problems. Thanks

I had this problem a few weeks ago and I kept forcing it to start until I tripped a trouble code and the check engine light came on. The trouble code confirmed it as the IAC acting up. Realize the MAF can be involved too. But at least it help confirm without looking at every sensor.

May want to try starting process a few times to see if you can trip a code and then go to cleaning IAC, MAF or replace.

where is mafs located? i know the iac is right under the little plastic covering cuz i cleaned it before...maybe time for another clean. good way to clean it? thanks guys

Skip cleaning the IAC. Just get a new one. They're under $50 I believe. Most likely thats your problem.

For some reason the IAC for a 1998 costs quite a bit more.....$95 from FPN

The one for my 97 OHV was only $45 at O'Reilly's.

thank for the help guys. Ill prob just get a new one like you guys suggest
