i Have a 2001 Explorer 4.0 SOHC with 53,000 miles on it, I bought it 2 months ago and noticed the timing chain rattling a little bit, now 2 months later it sounds pretty bad. A weird rattling/scrreching noise, its not the serpintine belt because when i hit higher rpm's the rattle increases, and the belt is new, Im pretty sure Ford recalled this?? could it be the tensioner? the chain is stretched out?? is this a big job? Costly?

If it’s just the Cam Chain tensioners it fairly straight forward job to do at home or relatively cheep to get a shop to do it.

If it’s the chains/guides/ tensioners then>
Is this a big job?>Yes
Costly?> Yes

Do you get a Warranty on the car if you got it a dealership, if so use it.
