Hi.

I have the dreaded timing chain rattle on my 2000 V6 OHC Explorer. Classic syptoms, rattle from engine at about 2-3000RPM on open throttle, not so bad on trailing throttle. It's done 97,000 miles but otherwise going strong.

Anyone know of a specialist in the UK ( preferably in the South/South West )who can replace the chain/tensioner etc ? ( my local Ford dealer - sharp intake of breath, much sucking of teeth, not sure about this one - not much call to work on these ...etc etc )

Anyone know the part number sof the kit I need ? ( are they the same as the US part numbers ? )

I bought the Haynes manual to see if I could do it myself: any advice from anyone who's done it ? I was thinking of replacing the front chain and tensioner and see if that fixes it. Can this be done without removing the engine ?

Any advice or info welcome.

Thanks.

Check this recent thread, I would suggest the same way to begin;http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200612

FYI, I would bet a lot that the parts will be cheaper if you source them from the USA, either the many mail order places, or even a dealer parts dept. The first parts that you may do likely will not be too much, you might get those where you are. I have heard of some outrageous price mark-ups though from other countries. Good luck,
