What is a good way to ensure propped timing after replacing heads and head gaskets? I having my heads redone and am unsure how to verify the timing will be correct after reinstall.

there's a procedure and a special tool to hold everything in the correct place. some will say you don't need the tool, but unless you want to possibly have to do this job twice, i'd use the tool. i've personally never done this job, but i think you'll find lots of into in this forum if you search.

My question is is there a specific procedure for after reinstalling the heads? I'm having them reworked at a machine shop and am concerned that the valves and cake will not be in the correct position, or the position they were in when removed. Is it as simple as installing the cam tool, installing the chains and guides and then spinning the motor over by hand to verify its timed correct? Or is there another way to do it?
