Hey all,

Seriously thinking of tinting my front windows 20% to match the rest of the car. I am aware of the inspection ramifications, beyond that what has been your experiences? Pulled over often, tickets, etc? I had my Flex tinted 20% and had no issues, but that was before the inspection change.

Thanks in advance

I personally wouldn't do it in NY. They issue tickets for clear covers over license plates, and have people issuing tickets every time you park on the street regardless if it's a residential or commercial block. You could call the DMV to ask questions or even go into a police station to ask but don't say that you've already tinted it. You're thinking about tinting it but you want to make sure that it's legal before you do it. A shop which installs tint should know if it's legal or not, and know about the percentage which is legal. I don't think that the auto parts store selling the tint will know what is legal but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Depends on the municipality. I think one cop in the next city over, before he retired, balanced the city's budget on tint tickets.

State police will enforce it as well quite heavily.

I agree with the other members. Also keep in mind that if it is too dark to see in, it will also affect your ability to see out, especially at night.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will resist the urge, or move to another state, New York is getting old on many levels :)

What is the legal limit? Here in Va it's 50% on front windows. I run 30% all the way around in my Focus and it's just right. I have 20% on F250 and you can notice a big difference in darkness. Also in my focus if I open the sunroof shade it brightens the interior and makes the tint look lighter.
