I have a 96 explorer and the time has come to replace the spark plugs. I was looking under the hood and it is very difficult to access them. Does anyone have any tips on making this job any easier? I priced it out just to have the plugs changed at a local shop and they said $250.00, needless to say i laughed and hung up. So please any help will be greatly appreciated.

I assume you have the 4.0 SOHC, if so I think your only problem would be with 2 of them on the pass side, I just turned the wheels and went in between the fender and the wheel and was able to pull them out, wear mechanics gloves and have plenty of rachet extensions handy

I don't recall having any problems on my GF's 4.0OHV

yea, if you are talking about the 4.0 SOHC it can be a #####...

All of them but the two nasty little ones on the passenger's side are pretty easy. Like he said, have plenty of extensions and swivels. I used an 10' with a swivel and I went inside the fender (take the plastic shield off). You can kind of feel them if you follow the wires and just go by touch for the most part. The whole job took my dad and me about an hour. Your first time won't be that fun lol but after that it's easy as heck.

What I didn't do is wear GLOVES. Now that is one hell of an idea!
