I've always had good results from the General Grabber series. Quiet and good grip in wet conditions, plus long wear.

Good luck on finding "quiet tires". They can be quiet on some surfaces but,
howl like a banshee on a different pavement type.

As an example, I have Yoko G55s on a 08 Edge. Quiet on most roads but,
when we drive on rock pavement, the radio does not get loud enough or
as you said, following a jet.

As tires wear, they also make more noise so you will replace them sooner!

I have had good luck with Cooper tires. So much so they are on all of our vehicles. They wear well, ride very smoothly and have no discernible noise issues unless I am on some sort of weird pavement.

The General Grabber HT2 is a very quiet tire, and I had them on most of my SUV's. Right now, I have Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II on my Explorer. They are very quiet also, and handle nicely. So far, they are pretty good in the snow. So were the Generals.
