Heres the story 1st....I was driving down the trail the other day and saw a tire in very good condition on a rim that was also in very good condition. I stoped to check it out, thinking it might be a better spare tire than i currently have. Well after a second i realized that the tire would fit my Ex, so i went to throw it in the back cargo area when it hit me. This tire is exactly like mine! I took a look under the Ex, where my spare SHOULD be and what do you know. Mine is gone, and i was just on this trail a few days before...

The moral of the story check everyonce in a while to make sure that your spare is still under our Ex. ALSO check the wire that hangs the tire. Make sure its not frayed, or very rusty. I mentioned this to my neighbor who MADE all the wires for Ford for many years untill they went overseas to get cheaper prices. Well he said he sugested that for under car tire hangers they use Stainless Steel which would only cost 12 cents more per unit. Back in the day they declined that and went with Galvanized. Then a number of years ago they droped his contract and went over seas for the part.

So if anyone has an extra tire hanger for some strange reason, say you have an external tire rack, please let me know cause i just took this one apart to rebuild it with SS aircraft wire to find out that it cant be rebuilt.

Thanks

I had something similar to that happen with my 1981 F100. Driving home from my girlfriends and my spare tire fell out in yhe middle of the damn road at 10pm! Had to walk back down the street to find it then hump it up into the bed of truck. Not fun on a road without street lights
