Tire Pressure Monitor Fault

07 V8 Ltd. 115k miles. Just bought it to replace a 01 Sport Trac that had 202k. Had the ST for two weeks and now it's randomly throwing the TPMS fault warning. I hate flashing dash lights. I've searched this topic here and the web. So my unresolved questions are, who has converted from banded to valve stem monitors? What brand is recommended? Other than the internal vehicle training, any other programming required with the conversion? Thanks

I threw orange electronics monitors in my summer rims. They are stem style, compatible with the ford programmer, cheap on ebay, and work great. Recommended.

I haven't tackled the conversion of sensors yet but now when I get the fault warning, hit the reset and after the warning light stops flashing and goes solid, I'll often get another fault alert. So learned ones, is this the same sensor twice or different sensors faulting? Since the warning is not tire location specific, is there anyway to tell?

Not sure, but based on the manufacturing date of the batteries in your sensors, odds are if one is failing its a matter of time, and not much, until all the rest have the same issue.

Best way to tell (IMO) is to swing by any decent tire shop. They have a handheld device that communicates with the in-tire transmitters and the receivers (behind fenderwell plastics). They'll be able to tell you if its one or more issues.


I've replaced all 4 OEM banded with valve stem generics from Discount Tire. Probably going on 3 years ago by now. They are negotiable salespeople at Discount Tire. One of my TPMS had gone bad, wasnt communicating. They wanted something ridiculous like $69.95 to replace it. Walked out with 4 new sensors, tires rotated and balanced in the process, for closer to $100. Like mentioned above, when one fails, its a matter of time before the others do.

Can't help you but to say I had same problem. Changed out to valve stem monitors at Discount tires for $60 apiece. Problem persists. I hate blinking dashlights also but don't know where to go from here.

For those that have changed to the stem types, did you remove the old banded sensors or just let them in place? Wondering if the banded sensors would throw an error after the new stem types were trained.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm having a similar problem. What I've found out is the sensors are in the tires, but the monitor is somewhere else (in a box, maybe near the relay/fuse box), so with a TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT how do you replace that? I know all about the SENSOR FAULT and the sensors, but there isn't much, if any, information on replacing the monitor. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
