probably a stupid question here but i have the stock tires on my 03 17" they are the b f goodwrench rugged trail. my question is has anyone replaced these with Goodyear or some other brand and has it diminish the road noise?

what are your goals? great road use, great offroad, or somewhere in the middle?

i never go off-road i use the truck for my job along with personal use of course i just want a quieter ride these tires make so much noise kinda annoying

the bfg RT's are normally a pretty quiet tire, you could have tire wear issues related to alignment, balance, or rotation issues. This can also point to shock/strut wear or wheel bearing wear.

Michelin makes a pretty quiet tire, their compound seems to be a bit softer. However if you don't diagnose those other possible issues after 2000 miles or so, your noise will return.

one other thing to point out, these are light truck tires and will not be as quiet as a car tire.

the allignment is good and they were just rotated i think the balance is good because there are no odd noises or vibrations i belive these are the stock tires i bought the truck with just over 50000 miles now has 80000 all the tires are pretty good shapes still so i dont know

If you feel the tire is there any cupping or feathering ?

I may be wrong but I doubt that you would get 80K on one set of RT's. so I doubt that is the original set of tires.

The bfg's on my '05 XLT (17" rims) wore out after 42K. I replaced them with Toyo OpenCountry H/T's. These are for highway driving. They are quieter than the rugged trails at highway speeds. In fact we drive faster than ever because there is less noise. Now the only noise is from our axle. :(

They do make some noise at 20-30 mph, but it is a different kind than the bfg r/t. So far we have been very pleased.

i have the 17s also maybe thats what i need highway tires since im always driving

since you want then for street only use i would definetly go with a highway tire. It will be the quietest option and last the longest as well. You will probably give up some snow performance (if that is a conceirn)

Are you sure it's the tires and not the roads?

I had those on eons ago, and they made noise on gravely type roads, asphalt. But on smooth roads, silence. How long have you had the 03? and has it always been this way?

I got BFG M/T's on my truck, and they are loud as hell compared to my stock tires......

If Im at a crawl speed, the whole cabin vibrates like I got a set of Subs in the trunk,:D, once I get moving they just howl pretty loud, and with the radio off and windows up, they make a noticable highway noise.....but with the radio on, they arent that loud.

But on the upside, those suckers grab the road like crazy, and its alot stiffer and feels like a new truck.

I've even heard of people complaining the BFG A/T's are loud!! I dont know about that one.......

If you want quiet tires, go with stocks, or some sport tires.

As long as they arent M/T's you'll be fine.
(also make sure the tread design doesnt look super aggresive.
