For anyone running aftermarket wheels, or tires on your X.....

AVOID TIRE RACK! I have used them many times in the past, and love thier prices and service. Unfortunately the unthinkable just happened. I just placed an order for one Goodyear Eagle F1 GS 275/40/ZR18. About 5 min after completing the online order I recieved a call from a very rude representative of Tire Rack. I was told that my order was being cancled b/c they will not sell ANY tire for the Ford Explorer other than the warranty replacement ones for the stock size Firestones. WHAT????

They refused my order, and refused my explination for my purchase. When I asked to be transfered to a supervisor I was again refused, and told that was not possible (the whole time being interupted by him telling me that there was nothing they could do, and they bassically didn't want my business). I then asked if I could be transferd to sales so that I could re-place the order under a different car....again...NO.

I am about to call and speak to a manager and try to get this resolved. I will update you all on what happens. Until then AVOID TIRE RACK!

If you would like to help try and gain access to one of the best on-line tire prviders please email them or call them. Let them know that you have heard of their rules and are discusted that you have to pay more for your tires just to help them cover their arses.

PS: The price was about $50 cheaper than anyone else even after adding the cost of 2 day shipping. I for one would like to regain access to this, and not be denied just for driving an X.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and help out our situation.

Mods, please stick this to the top for a while. Thanks

whoa, that sucks. i hope you get some satisfaction out of it.

No dice...

I just spoke with a supervisor at Tire Rack, and was told that they in no way will sell an aftermarket tire for a Ford Explorer. I asked if I could recieve a discounted price on shipping if I re-placed the order under a different car, and was refused.

Bassically if we are honest in our orders we will be discriminated against. Sure that sounds stupid, but it's true.

Please contact them and complain.

Its very possible that its their Insurance Company thats is the root of this evil.....

It's been discussed many times before that you cannot order a tire from them for an X, you have to say it's for a Jeep or something. Just have a family member order them under a different name and credit card.

Yes, it is a liability issue, but I don't feel that is an excuse when the wheel is obviously aftermarket, putting the liability on the owner to begin with. I for one don't feel like posing as a J@@P just to get something I should have access to in the first place.

I know some of you may not agree, but this has got to change. Legal issues or not.

i completely agree with you, godfather, but another thing to consider is that some parties claim that the ford explorer is defective, not just the wheels or tires. so the fact that your wheel is aftermarket probably doesnt matter to some people, since they think the truck is defective, not just the wheels.

If it's the truck that is the problem, why regulate the tires? In that case TR would not be looked twice at...the blame would be toward Ford.

Dang rollover pu$$ies. Yes it happened...yes, it probably could have been avoided, no you should sue every living person to try and make a name for yourself.

(Please don't take this as not caring for the lives lost...I do care.)

i dunno, im just trying to look at it from all angles. i think its stupid; the way that TR is handling it, but what can we do? i just get my stuff elsewhere. f' em.

Just go to pep boys! :) I'm loving my cheap and good Futuras! :) Assuming they last, and so far so good, I very well will be a repeat customer ;)

Oh wait, yer lookin fer like those performance tires...

I dont know where to find the high quality ones of those! :p

Oh and tire rack can eat it

Elsewhere that costs more :(

I probably wouldn't have cared if this wasn't a rushed order, and if I had been treated better. Guess they just cought me on a bad day.

I really hope you guys will act and show them that closing off this market is losing them more money than a lawsuit would in the long run.

I have a cheap hookup, it's just he takes longer, and the deals are usually for a set of 4....I just need one.

Oh and tire rack can eat it

I couldn't have said it better myself :D

I understand your frustration, and agree, however, life isnt always fair and well, like Alec said, this has been pointed out before... Its nothin new.
I am in no way blaming you or saying your wrong is your stand, but sometimes, we just have to suck it up and buy elsewhere. Its the way the ball bounces...

You people and your ignorance! These warnings have been posted SOOOOO many times about TireRack!

SUCK IT UP AND POSE AS A DURANGO

Just tell them you need it for your AMC Pacer

SORRY! I didn't know this had been posted before...and I was too pissed to do a search. I was mearly trying to help you guys out, and maby make a bit of a difference. If you guys are too weak to see that what they are doing is wrong, then that's too bad. I for one will NOT pose as something else just to save a buck. Sorry if you guys think it's stupid, but I was treated like crap today just b/c I admited to driving an X. One of my friends (also driving an X) decied to test them and called to place an order for his truck. After getting into a small arguement with the rep he requested that he be transfered to a supervisor. It was not until the fith request that he finally transfered him....at which point he staid on hold until hung up on. This was the main reason for the post...not just that they won't sell to an X....they were F'ING RUDE about it.

I'll drop it now, but I wish some of you would concider polite customer assistance as a quality you look for in a company you suport.

Dudes, I just ordered wheels from Tirerack for my new 18" wheels and told them I had a 2002 Sport Trac. Order went thru fast with no questions and had the tires 3 days later. Just to test the water I asked if they had any aftermarket wheels available for "my sportrac" and they said yea several choices.

We all know that Sportracs share the same bolt pattern and tire sizes as our X's. Go with that story and have fun! :D Definitely pays to search the threads before doing anything with your Explorer with all the negative publicity it's had.

I'm surprised that "Sport Trac" worked. Wouldn't a "Ranger" also work. Or, order everything from their website....

Whats there # I want to give them a ring.
