Okay, it's about that time! I'm gonna need to buy new tires here pretty soon and I was thinkin of goin a bit bigger. P235/70R16 is what's on there now and I was thinking of buying new wheels and tires so I had a couple questions for all the experts here:

Everything is stock on my truck so what's the biggest that I can go without rubbing or affecting anything else? I just want it to look a bit beefier..

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced site to consider? (I've never had to buy tires before this is my first vehicle)

Thanks in advance for the help!

The 255/70R16 is the optional tire size. General consensus is that 265/75R16 is as big as you go without scrubbing.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Still open to recommendations of places to buy, is buying online better than your average shop ?

i put on hercules terra trac a/t 265/70r16s. great tire. handles sand mud and snow wonderfully. ive actually pulled out several vehicles out of situations on the beach and in the woods. the plae i got them at is one of a kind but they installed the $135 per tire out the door including tax

I recently put 265/75/r16s Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac's on a stock 01 ST. These tires have a lot of tread on the shoulder and part of the sidewall. In full lock they just barely rub on the end of the sway bar. The rears are actually a bigger problem. When I turn hard enough for the body to lean a bit, the rears scrub against the inner fender well. I'm working on getting new rims to offset a bit, just trying to make sure this won't effect the front during steering and travel.

I love these tires!

Whitman, just take and ziptie the rear plastic fender wells in against the frame and no more rubbing. I had the same problem.

Midnight, Sweet I'll give it a try. I was planning on getting some new rims anyway, and just by chance the ones I picked out will bring the tires out another 3/4". I'll do the zip-ties as well, couldn't hurt...

i have 265/75/16 mickey thompson mtz on my 02 sports trac, and it does rubb when making sharp turns, i would say to shop the net to get the best deal. but they are great in the snow at this time i did not get stuck in the blizzard we just had in NYC.

i am thinking of adding a readylift torsion key to stop the rubbing

A Trac with 235/70-16's will have a 3.73 axle ratio (I used to own one). If you put on 265/75-16's it will be kind of a dog on acceleration (I know this). I would advise a slightly shorter 255/70 or 265/70.
Tracs with 255/70-16 tires from the factory came with a 4.10 axle ratio.

My '05 came with the 235/70/16 from the factory. I replaced them with 255/70/16 General Grabber HTS. Very pleased with ride and low noise of the General's, as well as grip in snow (and my truck is 2wheel drive). With the "larger" tire than what came on it the speedo may be slightly off but not really a noticable difference. I am very glad I went with the "optional" factory tire size on mine.

Thanks for all the feedback guys I really appreciate it!
