Right now, I am runnning the stock 15x7 rims and 225/70/15r tires on my stock 94 XLT Explorer. The tires are getting pretty worn down (No, they are not Firestones, I got rid of those a couple years ago)I want to replace the rims and tires and go larger. I am getting American Racing 136's, which are 15x8. I want to run 31x10.50 tires, but I don't know if they will fit. If they will, could it be possible to run 31x11.50 tires. The wider the better. The suspension is bone stock, and I plan on replacing the shocks when I get the new tires/rims also. If the 31's won't fit, how much lift will I need to make them fit. Thanks

you can run a 10.5 or even 11.5 w/ an 8" wheel no prob. i would recommend a 10" if you were gonna go w/ the 11.5 tires, just b/c it looks better and will rub less, but most people on this sight still seem to like the 8" wheel. i don't think you'll be able to fit 31's w/ out a lift. the biggest i've seen is 30's. you may want to consider a small body lift. they are inexpensive and easy to install. good luck man-russel

You will need about a 2" lift to fit the 31's and I would suggest the Torsion bar twist with the OME springs. The body lift would work, but I think moving the bumpers can create a hassle. Someone that has dealt with moving the bumpers on a 2' lift might be able to clue you into what they had to do. I also would be interested to hear some of the experiences, particularly if someone had a hidden hitch mounted and what it looked like after the body lift.

hey i have a 91 xlt bone stock suspension and i have run 31x10.50x15 on it for 3 years now with absolutley no problems what so ever other than i want to go bigger.
11.50 should fit but thats not a guarantee

if anyone in here could answer my question i would appreciate it.

next year i am putting a 6" suspension lift on my 91 xlt and i want to know if i could fit a 35x12.50x15 under that without it rubbing and so forth

Thank you

31's

Squirrel,

I have know several folks who have run 31's on an early ('91 or "92), stock, but for some reason, Ford must have made a minor suspension, or body design change on the '93 and '94's because the 31's seem to rub more on these years. A good tire shop should let you try them, (mine will) just as long as you're going to buy some tires from them. Obviously, they won't let you take a wheelin trip, and then bring 'em back, but testing them out in their parking lot, bouncing the vehicle, making tight truns etc to check for rub should be OK.

Adam- I am not sure that you'll be able to do a set of 35's...i've got 6in suspention lift and 3in body and and I know they'll fit but I don't know if it's worth all that extra size for the more wear a 35 will have on axles etc.

A 94 has torsion bars? :D Seriously though, 31's will fit though they may rub slightly if at all, like Ray said since the shop knows your in the market, they know you need/want some tires. Let them work for your business and try out different ones til you find what you want.
