TO ALL People w/ 5.5' lift X's Need Input!!!!!

Im going to get a 5.5' superlift in the near future, and i was wondering all the problems and anything you are concerned with. Anything go terribly wrong? I am also planning on putting on 33 Xterrians. How is the ride (i travel between two cities a lot)? Would you recrommend any more mods other than extended brake lines. This will really help me a lot. POST PICS if you have them.

The only problem I've had so far is my front sway bar was rubbing the coils and a couple of chunks were taken out (of the bar).. All I did was reverse the mounts and it pulled it away enough.. BTW-Those are 33" Xterrains under it:

Thats a awesome rig. Exactly what im planning on doing. With rims and all. Did you need to do any trimming?

Well thanks It's still in the works though. The only thing I trimmed was the valence when it was still on.. Your's might require less trimming, or more.. Depends on your explorer..

Doesn't the skyjacker kit come with extended radius arms?

I've got the Superlift with extended radius arms and I like it a lot. No problems....yet. Been on 9 months.

Same here, 5.5" w/ extended radius arms... no big problems after about 7 or 8 months. I've heard of and seen drop brackets and radius arms breaking though.

Many people have had problems with Superlifts drop brackets and radius arms cracking. They have been redesigned several times, yet still have problems.

Everything in the kit is poor quality, except maybe the steering components which are decent (supperrunner steering kit). Save your money for a solid axle for the front and you'll be happier unless you have a pavement queen.

I'm with CAC, on mine I had many problems... radius arms were never aligned right and wore through bushings, I snapped an axle drop down bracket, my radius arms were cracking when I replaced them, the springs sagged, etc. All of these have been supposedly designed, but if I had to do it over again I'd go with the skyjacker rfr's got. by the way pete, thats an awesome pic of your rig, I dont know who took it but I bet there a stud!

Yea i have herd a lot that people dont like it, but then people who do like it. This is really hard. I want a 5.5 or a 6in lift and SuperLift are the only peopel that have it. I am hesitant to go with them. But i am also on a budget so a solid axel would be out of the question. Thanks for everyones input so far!!!!

Hey bro, do a search for superlift. Look for the thread I started called superlift must die!!! In there you'll find some pretty good detail on why this kit blows. The only good thing is, now that I'm replacing some of the components with awesome stuff, its not like I wasted a ton of money on the superlift. one good thing about superlift is that they realize that their lifts suck, so they'll mail you new **** if your old **** breaks no questions asked. If you are planning on beating the **** out of your truck with this kit on, you're gonna be in a world of hurt like I am right now. I took a trip and am looking at about 1200 in repair bills so far cuz I was exceeding the superlifts capabilities. The shocks heat up and become worthless after hauling ass for a while, then your rear axle bends if you hit **** hard. As for the front end, if you hit some hard ****, you will break the passengers side axle pivot drop-down bracket. I broke two, then got smarter and bought a new one and had it reinforced. The spring perches for the SOA conversion in the rear also crush and snap quite easily. let us know if you have any more questions.

You can also build your own lift...........

If I was gettting ready to do it all over again (fresh $$$ for front end lift) I would skip many of the lift kits and go straight to building some bent beams, cutsom radius arms, coil bucket, and shock mount..........

But for now I am running a Duff 3" lift with skyjacker arms, stupidlift brake lines, stupidlift drop pitman, F-150 coil spacers, and some 4" skyjacker leafs in the back...
It works quite well!! I am planning to ditch the 3" VR coils (Duff) and spring seats and move the coil bucket up 1.5-2" along with mounting a F-250 shock mount. This will allow me to run a 6-8" lift coil and a long ass shock with only 5" of lift. Also in the works are 2" bent beams (I run an ARB and think 2" is about max) so I will be keeping the Duff 3" drop brackets.


My point is you can do a good custom setup (like Camburg bent beams, custom coil springs, shocks of your choice, extended arms, etc, for about the same $$$ you will spend on a Stage II or III kit........

Skyjacker makes an awesome lift kit, it all depends on what you plan to use the truck for really.....

This is making it a really hard decision. If i would lift my x i want a 6 or 5.5 inch lift. There a couple of people who havent have problems, but im not sure what kind of use they have put it through. For me I probably wouldnt do anything extremely hard core. I would take it easy. But there are aslo people who dont like it, and those people HATE it. As for making a lift, one i would need the brains, and experience which im lacking, and two if a part broke, the company i got if from would be hard to get my money back. Seems like a have a 50/50 chance of getting a lift that wont break. I just dont know.

let me just say this man...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! I paid 460 for my 5.5 superlift, and look what I got-a cheap lift that is basically meant for looks. If you want something that performs and something you can rely on, you need to spend some serious cash. I know you may not be all serious about offroading, but think long-term. Are you going to be going on runs with these guys? What kind of offroading do you like? Do you basically just want to lift it for looks? If its just for looks and occsaional light offroading, go for a superlift. It is cheap and basic, and if you break something you can get it replaced. Hell, wait another month or two and I'll sell you mine with all new parts
