Check out www.4lo.com for a metric tire calculator.

255/55/18 works out to 29x10
275/40/18 works out to 26.7x10.8

If you're not lowering, go with something close to 29".

stick with the 255.55.18 because they are closest to your stock size, and wont mess your speedo much

i got 255/55/18 and if your not lowering, thats def. the way to go (and probably even if you are) check out pics at www.cardomain.com/id/nnnick03

personally i wish i had a little shorter of a tire, but thats just my addiction for getting lower and lower

thanks for you help guys, I like your rides... Its funny I keep seeing both of those like everyday. nice.

NNNick, how much were your tires? I'm thinking about Michelin MX4+ I think they are... any thoughts?

(805):
If you're ever in the (818) lemme know. You can check mine out.

IMHO the best tire you can get in the 255/55/18 size is the Michelin Pilot LTX. But with tax there are like $200 each....

yeah those other michelins were only like 150 after tax... it sounds like the unanimous suggestion is 255/55/18...good to go.

I'm also contemplating the torsion twist to raise it a few inches... Its a 2wd so I heard there wont be damage to the CVs, and I could lift it even more if I wanted, though I dont. Is this acurate? And if so, what do we think about 285/60/18s, they're about 31.5"s of rubber, what do you guys think. I know its really just up to me, I can't decide what way I'm going with it yet... Its fun though

If you want 285/60/18s, I have a set of 5 toyo proxies s/t... I want to buy the rims from lowdpypes, but he doesnt want to sell tires and rims separately, so im trying to sell them for him. if your interested, check out this thread Dead Link Removed
and lemme know. they will certainly fit better if you lift it. lowdpypes lifted his car, and so they fit very nicely.

Looks like CDim30 is trying to do what I did... go with a 2" TT and throw on the rear shackles from Warrior Products (153). Once you get it lifted, I can sell you some killer tires (Toyo Proxes S/T) for a good deal. I have the AWD and my front end can't handle the lift too well. The proxes are awesome tires and they feature a rim protection that will not allow you to scuff your rims, incase the girly get's a hold of your truck and bumps a few curbs on the way to the grocery store... hehe... Just PM me or drop me an e-mail. Good luck...

(you can sport these without the lift, just no hard turning)

that sounds great, how much for the set? I'd be interestedif this price is killer. I'm waiting on some money right now (taxes, fin. aid, etc.) but should be able to commit to them. What condition are they in? PLease send me some detailed pics of the tread, etc, and some of your X so I can see how its riding. tHANKS A LOt!! Chris

how much do the shackles run ya, and can I do it myself w/ relatively NO exp.? tahnks

The shackles are about $60 and you can get them from 4wheelparts or tellico4x4.com , they're WAR153.

You'll need a jack, a few jackstands, a good ratchet set, some penetrating oil, and a breaker bar. It is a relatively easy mod. There are instructions on this site somewhere, either in the tips section or in a useful thread.

will I need to do any trimming to fit your tires on my 98 2wd 4dr? I want them if the price is right and they'll fit ok without rubbing. Thanks

If they're 31.5 tall x 11 then they do have a chance of rubbing with only TT/shackles. They'll only rub at full turn. Any trimming that you'd have to do would be minimal and unnoticable.

Just curious, why do you want that big of a tire?

yeah i was going to go w/ the TT/shackles but now I think I'm going to buy a 3" body lift kit and do it right. That way I'll have room for the tires which stand at 31" pretty much... bTahnks for your help guys
