- 1999 Explorer Sport
I recently got a 1999 Explorer Sport 4x4 with the 4.0 SOHC.
I'm entirely unaccustomed to this car -- I usually drive/work on old German cars. I've never had a vehicle with an automatic transmission, with a serpentine belt, made in America, newer than 1990, based on a truck platform, with a V cylinder configuration, etc.
I usually keep a small toolbox in the back seat for minor emergency repairs and minor maintenance, and it's currently stocked with all the tools necessary for my other car, which isn't currently on the road. There are about 4 sockets that will take care of 95% of the fasteners on my BMW.
What I'm trying to find out is - what are the fastener sizes that are common on the vehicle, and what other tools are needed for pretty much anything? I don't want to get stuck out on the side of the road somewhere with a toolbox full of 10 and 13mm tools only to find out that all the bolts on the Explorer are 12 and 14 mm...or even worse, SAE sizes.
