I have a 2000 4.0 and the top radiator hose stays sucked together after the vehicle has been ran and gets hot. I have to vent the radiator to get the hose to pop back open like its supposed to be. I thought the old hose was bad so I replaced it and the brand new hose is doing the same exact thing. After a 30 minute ride to work this morning I checked it and it was collapsed again.

Check your overflow tube. If it’s clear, change the cap.

Debris in the overflow will cause a bad chain reaction because it will clog the reservoir outlet at the bottom when fluid goes from tank to radiator, but will allow fluid from radiator to tank. It's a little difficult but you need to make sure the reservoir is real clean, then also clean the overflow tube. If the radiator needs flushed ( if you haven't done it yourself it does) the clog will return.

I had a little ball of some kind of sealant goo (about the size of a BB) somehow get into (or grow) my overflow tank. It effectively acted like a check valve, allowing hot coolant to enter the tank, but it could not return to the radiator as the system cooled. Weird. The little ball of goo was a PITA to get out of the tank because I didn't want to remove the tank. I eventually managed to drain the tank and sucked the ball of goo out with a piece of clear line and a ear syringe.
