Hello , I have a problem ... when I drive my explorer it jerks and clicks sometimes like the front differential (4wd) is trying to engage. It literally feels like I am split second pushing the brakes (jerks and you can feel it catching on something) and it does this at all driving speeds and I have noticed its much worse when its under a load or going up a steep hill. Its not constant and when it does this is mostly when i am first pulling out or in a curve. It doesn't seem to do it near as bad when its cold outside either. Strange I know, but I assure you I am correct in saying this. I also have an issue of it trying to pull forward when I have came to a complete stop and am holding the brakes, it lunges forward like I am pressing the gas. I was told this is probably a "torque converter lock out switch" causing the issue. I don't believe it to be any major transmission problems as it shifts smooth like it should in all RPM ranges and under all dif. loads. I believe this model the 1996 has the 44 tranny in it. does anyone know the location of this switch ? I was told at NAPA it was on the outside and is a simple change, but a mechanic told me I have to pull the tranny as it is in the inside of the bell housing. Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated.
