torque converter not unlocking.

98 eddie bauer 5.0 AWD 180~ miles unknown service history. often when coming to a stop it feels like the truck is still in gear. its fighting the brakes and has even stalled on me a handfull of times. the transmission always wants to upshift as fast as possible. I can be in 3ed gear before 30mph. and soemtimes when accelerating from a low crusing speed the transmission does not downshift which has been scary when trying to merge into traffic. i was going to change fluid and filter as this is my first auto vehicle and i dont know much else to try. iv read plenty of forum threads but none have my same symptoms. od works fine and i have no flashing lights. thanks for any help

The extent of my knowledge on the subject is that there is a solenoid in there somewhere.

I'm having some of the problems you're having because I don't have an operating speedo.

I should have put this in the stock section. my speedo is reading off, as it my temp gauge, oil pressure, and tach. il put a new thread there
