OK I've caved and will be purchasing a new rebuilt 5r55e.

i have some questions

Will a Hd Torque Converter make a difference in my truck that will be used for street and offroading?
I was checking out these convertors,
here
and here
both seem to be made for mustangs.
do you think they would improve performance?

Also one company http://www.tomsrivertransmissions.com/ I've contacted said they have a towing package for the 5r55e that includes "high energy internal parts" ? is this a load of crap or are there some substantial upgrades that they may have installed? besides a shift kit.

Also Ive contacted
http://www.phoenixhardparts.com/

has anyone used these companies before. thank for any info.

I can't answer the above questions, but another company to check out is hughes. I got my last torque converter from them.. Very good service and they were willing to talk to me and help me pick out a converter.

They have an office in tucson, so I picked it up so I don't know how bad shipping is.

From my looking at torque converters for my E-350 (for towing)-- yes there are differences, especially in the stators (TIG welded, etc..) and lockup clutch design/material (as well as how many clutches)
