two questions..

Hi All,

I have an Sport 99 and I want to lift it only and exactly 2", I went to a 4x4 shop to buy the shackles and they told me this:

- Shackles will not give me 2" and I can only do it with: AAL only or shackles AND AAL, what will be better??

- If I lift my X 2" (TB in front and shackles or AAL or both in the back) I must change the shocks for longer ones or else the X inclination on turns will be to much with the risk of rolling... is this true? or they just want to sell me some shocks? (I have the shocks that came with it from factory)

Thanks for the help...

question here, can someone tell me if the torsion twist changes the ride of the truck? also off topic...but if you do a shackles in the back, will that change the ride as well?...and will the shackles damage the leaves in any way. thanks alot for any input.

The TT will stiffen up the front end. I haven't felt it, but it only makes sense and thats wat others have told me. Shackles will not effect ride. It only "relocates" where the Leaf Spring attaches. If you have a sport, I know some have had problems with the leaf flattening out when shackles were installed and let the rearend sag. I don't know whether it damages the spring at all, but it doesn't help it. Good luck!

thanks for the info, yeah i have a 4 door, i think i might do it, cause i have to get clearence for 31x10.5's...without much money. peace

Shackles will give you about 1.5". If you want 2" go with shackles and AAL in the rear and TT up front.

No you dont need new shocks, but it will make you X ride better. Its common sense that the higher you go with you X the more prone to rolling it is.

Question that hasn't been asked yet????

Does the Torsion Twist and shakles in the rear reduce your towing capacity? Mines rated at 6400lbs. I tow a trailer usually near 3000lbs on a regular basis.

Greg

As long as you are using the warrior shackles and you have a set of decent shocks then you should be able to tow the same amount as if your truck was stock.

When you put larger tires on is when your reduce your towing capacity....

Great thread...I have a question

My 2000 4dr 2wd sits a bit lower in the rear than the front. What would be my best option to level or even have the rear 1/2" higher or so? I assume the easiest would be to twist the bars and lower the front but the rubber stoppers are pretty close as it is.

Thanks

Can someone send the pics of this 101 deal???I want to
raise my 98 Explorer. For some reason I can't see the pics.My E-Mail is Bills4x4truck@cs.com.Also which would be better, the Warrior shckles your talkin about or a add a leaf ket??? HELP???? PLEASE??????
Bill

Alignment

Has anyone done an alignment themselves after doing a TT?
Did you have any problems and did you need to buy new camber cams?

I Fixed the photos. they now show up.
They didn't show up casue of my ISP merged, and the address was different! sorry!

I needed new cams cost $180.00 for the alignment at brakes plus after the twist.

I just had cams put in mine two days ago. With a cost of $25 out the door. The best thing to do is find a relative who owns a tire shop! :D  :p

I am aware on torsion twist and how to go about it but I have also been told about heavy torsion bars, should torsion bars be replaced like any other part of the suspension.

if you think i got screwed on the cams and alignment, 2 days after i bought my 5-0 the check engine light came on.....dad took it to the dealer.......$300.00 later i had.....you guessed it.......a new O2 sensor! too bad dad never told me the problem or i couldve fixed for less than $100.00 and in 20 mins........

So as long as you don't exceed 2 inches and you re-align your vehicle this doesn't cause any harm right?

2 questions still remain with me after reading this whole thread:

1) YES or NO, is it safe to LOWER the truck via TT with the vehicle on the ground?

2) Do you have to do 2 Bolts? I was under my 97 2WD EX a while ago and I saw that one torsion bolt had like 3/4 inch showing while the other was snug in almost all the way. Not even thinking, I just screwed the one bolt in to match the other. When I brought my truck down off the lift the front was jacked up over an inch. I haven't gone back yet to fix it, but the 700+ pounds of stereo I added now makes my truck look like it's ready to do a wheelstand at every light.

So do I need to back BOTH bolts off, even though there's no real height discrepency between the 2 sides?

Thanks gang,
Josh

That second one is a question I'd like to know the answer to as well. I did a TT on my 97 Sport 4x4 and the driver's side bolt went all the way to the end of its travel way before the passenger side did. Also, the 2 sides were not the same height at the bottom of the wheel well (5/8" difference). All I got was abotu 1.25" on the drivers side. I think I'm just going to leave the driver's side bolt maxed and level the other side to it from the flat ground to the bottom of the wheel well. I really want all 4 wells exactly the same height off the ground. Then comes the 2" BL, then comes the AAL & longer torsion bolts.

help

what would be the max size tires i could put on with a tt in the front and a three inch body? I noticed that fabtech has a 3" lift spindle for 2WD... can that be used on a 01 ST? my goal is to put 35s but since i dont have a 4X4 im getting tight with options
