Hi!

I'm new on the forum, and decide to buy some touch screen dvd player for the place of the original casette player of my 97 xlt. Does anybody know which size would fit it?

Any single din pop out dvd/nav system will fit (like the pioneer Avic N3), as well as ANY double din, (such a the Pioneer Avic Z3 for example, but you will have to do some very light trimming to the dash bezel...)
All you have to do is make sure you buy the appropriate dash kit and wiring kit with the head unit for easy installation, or have a a reputable shop do the install for you.

Buying the right kit to fit properly is the key, then anything should work.

As mentioned, any single or double DIN size.

You'll need a wiring harness, which you can get from Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com).

You'll also need an install kit. The two most popular are made by Scosche and Metra. Each kit has the materials for either a single or double DIN size receiver.

I believe to make it fit properly you had to cut a couple tabs off the kit. Well the Scoshe I had to with mine.

Correct. The Scosche filler essentially contains openings for two single DINs. To use it for a double DIN, you remove the horizontal bar.

In addition, you'll need to trim the radio bezel/trim. Ford's opening is about 1.95 DIN in height. By removing the upper and lower ledges (you cannot see this change, either when reinstalling the stock radio or using the new radio), you enable a double DIN to fit.

And the trimming takes all of about 5 minutes to do. It is not an issue. Don't let it bother you. Heck...worse case scenario would be you would need a new dash bezel and they are all over eBay for $20.

Beautiful install! If you don't mind me asking, how much did that unit run you and have you been satisfied with it overall? Does the unit have GPS support?
Nicely done, looks factory.

That is a very clean install Flounder. Nice work. What model Kenwood is that? I like it.
