Tow hooks

I did some checking too since my friend works the part counter at Ford dealership. The closest one is off the Expedition or F-350. That won't fit on without mods. I don't think it should be that much different on a 2000 then on anything else 1995+ Either attach it to the existing holes in the frame or drill some fresh ones. Make sure you're not gonna be in a way of something of high importance (steering, suspension).

Just out of curiousity, anybody put tow hooks on a 1994 4x4 4 door?? Just curious since most other 4x's have them. And would like a set incase of some unknown obstacles on trails, any help would be appreciated. e-mail at rmnp@yahoo.com

I've got some on both the front and rear of mine. For the front I used one of the holes that were there and just drilled another hole where I needed to bolt the other hook onto the frame. As for the back....I did a nono. I welded them onto the frame. I'm also trying to remount them with the bolts like they should be. I learned this after I ripped one of them off awhile ago. If you have a hitch I would just use a shackle inserted into the slot. More likly than not I'm going to use a shackle on the frame next time rather than a tow hook. I'll keep the ones up front though.....or maybe use both up front just for looks

Take a look at my page and some pictures there of the hook instalations on my truck. I did drill some new holes and also had to come up with a welded gizmo/bolts for the front since there's very little room to get these in and no room to put a wrench on them. You'd have to weld a piece across the bolt to prevent it from spinning.

About two years ago, I went to my local welding shop and got a 2" reciever hitch and welded it to a piece of tube steel and welded it from frame rail to frame rail. I now have a receiver hitch on the front. I also welded up a clevis reciever just like CBoug76. The hitch, clevis adapter and pin only cost me $50. I haven't had any problems yet.

I'd watch it....welds can break. It's not recomended that you use welds to hold onto your hooks or anything that will be used in that fashion. You might go forever without breaking them, but if they do...your screwed. You'll end up with a tow hook and strap flying back at about 50mph. This could be solved by using bolts instead. You can break the bolts too.....but it's not too likely

I just fiished installing a front reciever. I have a Smittybuilt front tube bumbper w/ a winch mounted to it. I ran a solid piece of 2" reciever hitch bar across the front in front of the fraim rails to the bumber brackets. I then welded the crap out of it, put brackets on the inside of the frame rails and bolted it all together. Bolts and Welds. Hopefully it's bulletproof.

hey guys, does anyone know if there are holes on the bottom or side of the frame on the front of a 96 where i could mount up some hooks? ive looked before but i may have overlooked some holes. thanks

Yes!

There are some perfect holes on the front framerails. On each rail, there's a pair of holes about 6" behind the bumper, about 2" apart. I had to enlarge them, but that's where I mounted my hook.

ok, i found those holes. they look like they should be fine, of course i will enlarge them. now one other concern, will i have to go all the way through the frame to the top?

it would be easier to put a wrench onto the bolt but you don't have to. On my 94 I was able to squize the bolts in through some other holes and started off finger tighting the bolts and the hook. I then hooked a tow strap to the hook so some preasure was put onto the bolt itself. That helped to keep it from slipping. Then I was able to use a wrench to tighted the bolts. A bit of wd40 would help too.

explorer pro comp tow hooks, 91 to 94

The tow hooks from pro comp woth great up front, on my 92 sport i dident have to drill but one hole, thats it, just try not to get the wrench stuck. O yea, where to find D pins for the rear???

I'm debating about hooks with drilling holes or some shackles from a tractor supply store. They're going to need to custom order them, but they should fit. If you've got a hitch warn makes a receiver with a shackle mounted on it.
