Hey fellas,

I have a '01 Explorer w/ the Tow Package. Of course, I now need to install a Tow Bar and Hitch.

What do you recommend? What electrical will I need to configure?

Thanks in Advance!!

you will just need to get a hitch of your choice and go get it installed... uhaul installs hitches..... the wiring should already be in your truck, in the rear jack storage area you will probably find a 4 foot long harness that will plug into a harness inside your rear bumper...the other end of the harness is a standard 4 plug trailer plug

What if the trailer I'm towing needs a 7pin Plug...should I retrofit or use those factory style adapters I've seen online?

Would I be better off buying a tow hitch online and bringing it to uhaul to install?

Thanks!

wow a 7 plug... is the explorer even rated to tow a trailer that big? i know that the 7 plugs are becuase of the trailer brakes..... my friend has a 7 plug on his truck, and he used adapters to make his 7 plug into a 4 when we towed my x.... i bet someone makes a adapter in a reverse configuration

Drive over the hill to Van Nuys, on Balboa Blvd. is a place called HitchMasters.
They will fab and install a custom, almost completely hidden hitch for about the same price as the off the shelf stuff.

Hitch Masters ,heh! I guess they don't have a location up North (Bay Area)...sorry for the confusion...it's Brentwood up North....it looks good though!

Yeh...a 7 plug...my buddies Master Craft trailer requires one...and my cousin's Crowline trailer has one too!!

You don't think I can tow a 21' boat? It won't be for long haul...just quick run's to the lake launch or moving it around the driveway.

Why pay someone to install a receiver hitch? Just take the spare tire down and do it by yourself. It will save you about $50. It's really easy to install. There should already be a plug under the back left part of you rear bumper to plug in the pig tail. You won't really need the 7 plug, the x isn't that good for stuff that big. You could always just check on the adaptor too.

hey frank
what's a "xlr" explorer?

what have you done to mod it?

i like your badge.

Why pay someone? I normally would have installed my hitch on my own, but the truck accessories shop where I got my Draw-tite was offering the drawbar, hitchpin, ball, hardware, and installation for less than it would cost me to buy the drawbar and ball, and I still would need the pin and other hardware and tools that I'd need just in case since I was in college and not at home around my tools. They were done before I knew that my truck was in the shop having the hitch installed.

Thanks.

Try to use the "search" button and look for sway bars, or just look in the "Sport Truck" section, there is tons of good info.
