Towing Question

Towing Explorer flat

I see this is old, but
I've read this thread several times and still don't have it clear.
Can a gen 1 with automatic and push-button 4WD be towed flat if the rear driveshaft is disconnected?

Yes... with the rear shaft disconnected @ the rear axle & both front hubs Unlocked you can safely flat tow the vehicle with no worries.

With the rear drive shaft disconnected at the rear axle the T-case will not be moving. If the T-case were to be moving it would cause transmission damage.

Thanks, DeRocha!
Now maybe I can take it as a Christmas present to my daughter up in the hills and still be able to drive myself back home.
