To all who are trading-in your old vehicle for an "ordered" vechicle,

i was wondering if your dealer gave you a quote when you ordered your car. We ordered on 3/4, being built on 4/28, so i am guessing we should have it in by the middle of May. My wife has only put 1000 miles on it since that time, but I am worried that when i actually trade my vehicle in, he will not honor what he has written down. If the price does go down, do i just "walk away" or what do you guys recommend. I have only purchased 1 vehicle before and i don't want to get screwed.

I received a quote, and put more than 1,000 miles on on my trade-in since ordering. I picked up my Explorer yesterday and the miles were of no issue. I would think any honest/intelligent dealer knows that you're still going to be driving the trade in before you get the Explorer. As long as it is a reasonable amount of additional milage (like no cross country trips), it shouldn't be an issue. I've traded in many cars, and never had a dealer make additional miles since the quote an issue.

Go on kbb and plug in ur car with the miles u had and then add 2,000 miles on it, see how little u lose in value. He shoukd honor what he told you.

thanks for the info. one less thing to worry about.......hopefully.

I gave them my trade in before taking delivery because they warned me if I crossed 80k miles, they could not give me as much. I dropped it off with something like 79950 ;)

Most dealers use Kelley blue book. We will see what I get, it's on 02 mountaineer that I hope to get at least 5000 for...

I work at a dealer if you want post up what you have and the miles and I will give you the wholesale number to compare with.

it is an '06 Town and Country, Base model, no extras, 60,200 miles. just wanted something to haul the kids around in until they got bigger. they were offering me 7000 at 59K

7k is wholesale he should not change the number for just 2-3 k miles.

Badloser,

What about a 99 Lexus RX 300 with 167,000 miles? It was fully loaded when I purchased it (certified), so I'm hoping for 5-5,500 based on average Kelley, black book (I think) and one other I looked at (NADA, maybe). Any thoughts??

Thanks!

DH

Thanks

You got PM

Our dealer worked with us really well on our trade in. When we got the false call to come in and pick up our Ex *it wasn't ours* they locked us into a price for trade in. It was actually about $750 higher than what we were quoted when we ordered. When we figured in our tax savings, it was a no brainer to go with the dealer, because privately we wouldn't have received that. Its now on sale front and center in their used car lot, Ill be watching how long it stays there since I pass it everyday.

badloser what about a 03 ford explorer xlt v8 4x4 with 101000 miles. :)
